Pizzeria Heirloom: Delicious Pizzas in Hochelaga
The owners of Pizzeria Heirloom were already successful with their two other restaurants: Le Quartier Général and L'État Major. Both having kind of the same concept: a bring your own wine restaurant where you can enjoy a creative menu that changes with the seasons and the chef's desires. Considering that L'État Major is located in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district, we imagine that it facilitated the opening and contributed to the popularity of Heirloom.

Located on the Promenade Ontario, Pizzeria Heirloom occupies a charming space which can accommodate up to 60 people. Even before getting in the restaurant, the scent of pizzas can be smelled from the outside. It is clear that if you walk past this place without planning to stop, it would be hard for you to ignore this smell and continue your way. It's the same kind of comforting smell as when you get in your parent's home and they've been cooking all day. The splendid wood oven installed in the kitchen is probably the main reason why it smells so good!

In addition to cooking their delicious pizzas, the wood oven brings a touch of aestheticism to the place, because unlike a conventional oven, it's quite impressive to have in a kitchen! Since the kitchen is open to the dining room, you can see all the magic happening right in front of your eyes.

The decoration is quite simple, wood is one of the main materials used to give charm to the place. The tiles that covers the walls brightens the space and gives a clean look. The ceramic in front of the bar and the wall along the kitchen caught my attention because I particularly like patterns that look Mediterranean. Finally, a large "pin board" style menu is installed at the back of the dining room to display the pizzas offered.

For cocktail lovers, you will find a simple menu, but one that fits perfectly with the food menu and the place. We tried the cocktail made with gin and olive oil, and it was surprisingly delicious. As for the wines, an interesting wine list is at your disposal with beautiful private import products and the prices are very reasonable if you wish to buy a bottle.

When it was time to choose what we were going to eat, it was a difficult choice, especially for the starters. We were three Italian cuisine lovers so everything on the menu made our mouth water. We opted for the burrata, the arancinis and the veal tataki. We did not regret any of these choices. The burrata, this creamy Italian cheese, was served with generous pieces of warm focaccia, pine nuts, pesto and tomatoes. Although it was delicious, we would have appreciated if there were more tomatoes on the plate to savor with the cheese. The acidity of the tomatoes pairs perfectly with the creamy side of the burrata.

The arancinis were made of risotto and cheese, very classic, but well executed, and they were served in a perfectly balanced tomato sauce, covered with parmesan shavings.

The veal tataki was served with a tuna sauce, arugula and parmesan shavings. The delicacy of the veal made this piece of meat the ideal choice for a tataki. Cut to the perfect thickness and seasoned with care, this appetizer ended the first course exquisitely.

We can't say that the choice of main courses was easier to make. Each of the pizzas that appear on the menu seem appetizing and delicious. The pasta dishes look just as tasty, especially when you know that the pastas are made fresh at the restaurant. So we opted for one pasta dish and two pizzas.

The pasta dish that caught our attention was the pappardelle with rabbit ragu and mushrooms. The pastas were perfectly cooked, the wild mushrooms were grilled and tasty and the rabbit was tender and enhanced the dish perfectly.

For the pizzas, we opted for the one with grilled vegetables, garnished with tomato sauce, eggplant, zucchini, peppers, onions and arugula. A generous portion of lemony ricotta was placed in the center of the pizza. We could not hold ourselves back for asking for an addition of speck, this delicious Italian ham is so good!

The second pizza we chose was the cipolla. A pizza with a base of white sauce, covered with herbal oil, fior di latte cheese, which resembles mozzarella, caramelized onions, parmesan cheese, oyster mushrooms and finally fried sage. This one was personally my favorite, it was perfect and left us on a happy memory of our dinner.

We finished the evening with a berries panna cotta, the mix of the acidity of the fruits with the traditional creamy taste of the panna cotta was perfect. Also on the dessert menu is a praline and strawberry chocolate pizza, as well as two decadent milkshake options.

Pizzeria Heirloom will not disappoint you if you want to eat a good pizza with a good glass of wine surrounded by your friends. The atmosphere adapts to all kinds of circumstances and will certainly be one of the gourmet addresses of the Hochelaga district!
