Over the years I've tried many so-called "Italian" restaurants which most are " not " owned and operated by Italians and they just don't measure up with their watered down and sugery tomato sauces and mushy pasta. You want to try real Italian cuisine ? try Restaurant Gualdieri, believe me you won't regret it. It may not be located near the big hotels or the shopping districts but the less than 10 minute drive from Laval's downtown area is well worth it, believe me, for a fine dining experience this is the place. To give you an idea of it's location, it is but a few blocks from Laval's hospital, and it's accessible by the 440 hwy. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they make their own bread ( delicious ) and also make their own sausages , italian cold cuts like prosciutto, sopressate ( salami ), cappicolli, they do smoked trout or smoked salmon , and even gravlax. On the menu you have a wide variety ranging from pasta dishes to veal chops, osso buco, angus beef steaks, duck and plenty more and yes even pizza, and everything is absolutely delicious. They also make the most incredible " to die for " deserts ". They have this incredible wine list and if you don't know what to pick maybe the house " sommelier " can help you with chosing the right wine for your meal and won't necessarely suggest the highest priced wine either. For those of you who are interested, I was told that they are equipped for conferences and you can reserve for a small gathering up to a room for a big party. The staff is polite, friendly and very much of service. The prices are excellent, from a small budget up to ++ , the table d'hôte offers a wide variety at different price levels and includes the appetizer down to coffee and desert. Loved this place so much that I've suggested this restaurant to my family and that's where will celebrate my parents 50th anniversary, yessss ! Really, if I could I would eat there every day, now That's Amore !!!
