ITALFESTMTL festival (previously named MONTREAL ITALIAN WEEK), which premiered in August in the Montreal-North borough, was launched in 1994. The festival today offers a variety of activities and events in various Montreal neighborhoods, as well as for one day in Laval.
Today, the Italian community is one of the largest ethno-cultural groups in Quebec and contributes significantly to its social and economic development. According to the 2016 census, Quebec now has nearly 326,700 people of Italian ethnic origin, including more than 147,015 in Montreal alone.
The Montreal's Italian Week, organized by the National Congress of Italian Canadians in Quebec, is a non-profit and non-political corporation, founded in 1972, for which one of its missions is to promote Italian culture and promote multi-ethnic relations in the region. For this reason, the Congress has decided to offer Montreal citizens and tourists the Montreal Italian Week Festival.
Montreal's Italian Week aims to promote and bring to life Italian culture through the expressive and artistic forms that characterize it. The festival today offers a variety of free activities and events in various Montreal neighborhoods, as well as in Laval.
