A Taste of Mexico in Montréal: 3 Amigos Brings the Fiesta Home

There's something unmistakably comforting about the warm sounds of Latin music, the sip of a fresh margarita, and the smell of sizzling fajitas rising from a crowded table. At 3 Amigos, that feeling isn't reserved for vacations away only.

Since 1998, this Montréal-born restaurant chain has brought a little piece of Mexico to neighbourhoods across the Greater Montréal area, offering a festive and flavourful escape that feels like a staycation with some extra spice.

With eight locations, including Downtown, Quartier Latin, Laval, Brossard, Boucherville, Terrebonne, the West Island and Old Montréal, 3 Amigos has built its reputation. They offer bold colours, generous portions, and that unmistakable energy that comes from laughter shared over tacos and tequila.

Cinco de Mayo, the Montréal Way

Every spring, just in time for Cinco de Mayo, 3 Amigos launches its annual contest to celebrate the joy of Mexican culture and the beginning of terrace season. Originally commemorating the Mexican army's victory at the Battle of Puebla, this date has become a festive moment in North America to honour Mexican heritage through food, music and gatherings.

This year, the tradition continues, their annual Mexican vacation is back! From May 1st to June 5th, 2025, it will be possible to enter for a chance to win a $4,000 travel credit toward a trip to Mexico. The winner chooses the destination, the itinerary and who they want to share it with.

Maybe it's a dream to unwind at a resort in Tulum, or an idea of wandering through the streets of Oaxaca in search of the perfect mole. However you imagine it, this long-standing contest keeps the Cinco de Mayo spirit alive long after the last margarita. Details will be available in all participating restaurants and their social media starting on May 1st.

Like a Resort Without Leaving the City

Walking into 3 Amigos feels like stepping into a vacation memory. The décor bursts with life: vivid pottery, colourful textiles, oversized sombreros and cheeky signage all contribute to a joyful, unpretentious atmosphere. It's a place to catch up over lunch, gather the family on weekends or toast a milestone with friends.

That festive vibe goes beyond the visuals. Live mariachi bands, dancers, and DJS often take over the floor during evening services (each location sets its schedule). Most locations boast ample space and are well-suited for large gatherings, making them ideal for group celebrations of all kinds.

Birthdays are especially joyful, marked by upbeat music, a sombrero placed on the head of the guest of honour, and the entire staff singing around the table. By signing up for the Birthday Club at least 30 days in advance through the online form, it's possible to receive a $12 dining voucher valid on your birthday. The offer is reserved for those aged 18 and over, and you must activate it before visiting the restaurant.

A Menu That Feeds the Craving and the Crowd

Tacos may be the heart of the menu, but they're just the beginning. From crunchy shells and juicy birria to grilled asada, the variety is impressive. Add to those sizzling fajitas, homemade guacamole, nachos, enchiladas and cheesy quesadillas, and it's easy to find something to crave. Even the syrups used in cocktails are prepared on site.

Looking for something to sip? The margarita list is a show in itself. Classic, frozen or on the rocks, they come in all sizes and flavours: peach, guava, ruby grapefruit and spicy jalapeno cilantro.

Those skipping alcohol are not left behind. The festive mocktail menu includes vibrant tropical creations like pina coladas, frozen daiquiris and fruity blends that match the spirit of the celebration, minus the buzz.

Everyone can find something on the menu. Dishes suitable for gluten-free, vegan or vegetarian diets are clearly marked. There's even a dedicated kids' menu, with tacos, burritos and pasta, all served with sides and a scoop of ice cream to finish.

An Open Invitation to Celebrate

After more than 25 years, 3 Amigos still finds ways to surprise and delight. It's a place where people make memories over shared plates, loud laughter and music that makes you want to stay a little longer.

Whether it's a return to a favourite location or a first-time visit for Cinco de Mayo, this spring, you might find the perfect moment to rediscover Montréal's own slice of Mexico. You could even turn a night out into a vacation abroad.
