I've been watching this space for a while, now that they seemed to stabilized their variable business hours we took a chance to see if the new owners could justify buying local. As someone living only 350m away I truly wanted this to become a staple. However, after our recent delivery, it's clear that the current quality-to-price ratio isn't meeting the local market standard. While their pricing may be positioned similarly to the competition on paper, the actual product-both in quality of execution & quantity of toppings-doesn't come close to justifying that cost.
We ordered a 12' Greek Pizza for $23. At this price point, one expects a better experience than we had. Unfortunately, the execution didn't match the cost:
The quantity was underwhelming for the price. Counting exactly 10 olives & a very sparse amount of feta & tomatoes makes the pizza feel'budget' despite not being budget price.
While the outer crust was crispy, the center crust was way too thin. This made it soggy, as it lacked the'integrity' needed to hold the toppings. Even though they are close by the pizza arrived lukewarm, which shouldn't happen for a delivery traveling such a short distance.
Maybe it's just me but the addition of basil feels like a poor choice that overpowers the Greek ingredients rather than enhancing them.
The math doesn't work. To put it plainly: a 12' Greek pizza at this quality level isn't a $23 product.
Usually I drive all the way into Verdun to pick up from Metro Pizza instead. Which I will continue to do.
It is a telling sign when a customer is willing to bypass a shop 350m from their front door to drive to another neighbourhood. Metro offers better quality & generally better specials.
I'm sharing this because I'd rather see a local business thrive than close its doors. For this place to survive past its first year, the offerings need to improve significantly to justify their prices, or the regular pricing needs to be adjusted to reflect the actual value of the food being served.
Right now, the'bang for your buck' just isn't there, & I hope the management uses this feedback to recalibrate.
For the moment I'm not buying.
Encouragez local!
