Went to Still Life on Tuesday, December 23. The venue was empty. We were four adult men, out for drinks & fully prepared to spend.
At the door, a young female door attendant with zero business awareness insisted on enforcing a two-bottle minimum just to enter - on a dead Tuesday night. No flexibility, no reasoning, no ability to read the room. Just robotic rule-repeating from someone clearly not qualified to be making revenue decisions. It's not like we're average guys. I had 2 pro hockey players (guess which team?) & a UFC fighter with me…so we didn't even look like your average group.
For context, I'm a recognized entrepreneur in this city who regularly supports & spends at local hospitality venues & I bring local celebs. I don't expect special treatment - but I do expect not to have my time wasted by someone who doesn't understand how money actually walks through the door.
It was incompetence.
We left immediately. If you're thinking of going on a slow night, save yourself the trouble. There are plenty of places in Montreal run by people who actually understand business. Don't ask why this place can barely make a profit & closes in a couple years. When the gatekeepers are amateurs who know nothing about how to make money.

I love stillife! But.. the only downside is that I can't go there to have a single drink -- everytime I end up finishing the night & realizing I've closed the bar! wouldn't recommend, bad for my health, GREAT for morale 😶🌫️
Got served by Lea!! She is the absolute best. Made my entire experience likeable. Amazing drinks & ambiance. I will definitely be back & will suggest this to all my friends for a night out. & will definitely be back to see lea !!! ;)

The decor was nice, but staff is very rude. If you don't order more drinks they will rush you to leave to make place for other clients. You can't take your time & enjoy. Very disappointed.
I was initially sketched out when my friend walked me to an alley & opened a tiny black door. Then we walked down the stairs. & then there was another door with an apple on it. Felt sooo surreal like I was in matrix following the rabbit. & boom. The place was stunning. I can't emphasize enough how sleek & modern the place is. I really wish this place was invite only so we can keep it a cute lil secret. It has exposed concrete walls & iron beams. Cinder blocks with candles everywhere. Comfortable group seats & great ambience overall. Oh the music is a banger too. & we ordered some cocktails & man they were delicious. Even the mocktails were amazing. The other stunning part was that the place wasn't even that expensive. I'm from Austin & I'm used to spending $30 USD on a drink & here it was like $20ish CAD which was a pleasant surprise. & mocktails at $10/drink. Highly recommend this place if you're on a 5th date with a girl & wanna take her to a place you both can dress up & have an intimate & yet upscale evening together. Definitely bringing my 20 some friends here next time. But also shhhh keep this place a secret!
Amazing spot in montreal with great music, Antoine is simply the best bartender in town, super nice & knowledgeable, he gave us THE best service & served us amazing drinks.
Disappointing service for such a gem of a place. We loved the whole experience of finding the speakeasy, & then getting to see the cozy place (looks really nice). Unfortunately, the drinks were very disappointing. We started off by ordering 2 shots, which they gave us less than half full. The waiter explained that it’s 1 ounce per shot & the shot glass fits 2 ounces - but every bar that we’ve been in montreal serves full shots in the ‘2 ounce glasses’ that they claimed, which they filled at about 1/4 of the glass. I ordered a gin basil, which had no basil or lemon in it whatsoever, & was missing the whole sweetness component - in this case, that drink should be labeled differently on the menu. The waiter tried to explain that it was their own take on it, but it was literally gin & cucumber juice - & that was $21. My girlfriend ordered a drink that supposedly had a vodka base & some aperol, yet the drink had barely any alcohol at all in it. Both drinks that we ordered had ice cubes that were almost the size of the cups. We tried taking the ice cubes out, & the amount of the cocktail that was in the glass was less than half the cup. We normally order multiple drinks at places like this, but we left right after this disappointment. Service must be worked on since it’s a very nice place.
