Reviews for Shanghai Grill
This place was our go-to Chinese takeout spot when I was a kid (it used to be called Chine Toque). I have been back a few times over the years & consistently have a pretty decent meal. Prices are fair & you get a soup, an appetizer, & a main dish with a side of white rice.
Unfortunately tonight I had a very mediocre meal there. The soup was okay & the peanut butter dumplings too, but the main dishes, chicken with crispy spinach & general tao's chicken were both honestly really bad. They used to be predictably delicious with lots of sauce & tons of flavour. Tonight the general tao's was basically chunky fried matter with some overcooked chicken inside & a small pool of sauce underneath. The chicken & spinach looked great, but the chicken, which was doused in sauce, was tasteless. The crispy wantons they serve at the beginning were served with a little dipping cup of ketchup. Finally, i don't know where they are sourcing their fortune cookies, but these are obviously the cheapest things on the market, they have the texture & sheen of product packaging.
I am disappointed since I am so used to getting a tasty & consistent meal at Shanghai Grill. There is a possibility we will give it another chance but definitely not anytime soon.
Very good experience overall. Generous portions with rice, appetiser, & sides included - great value for money. Service was polite & quick, & the restaurant is clean & wheelchair accessible. Some dishes could have had stronger flavours, but still a solid spot, especially for vegetarian & vegan options.

We picked up chicken fried rice & hot & sour soup from this restaurant earlier this evening. Both items were hot & came in reasonable portions, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the fried rice was so salty it was practically inedible. That was supposed to be our main meal, & after a long day, we were really looking forward to something comforting. The soup was fine, but it didn't make up for the disappointment. Not the experience we hoped for.
I don't understand the negative reviews. I've been there dozens of times for lunch & found the food delicious. The service is super friendly also. Definitely one of my favourites!
I have visited the Shanghai Grill restaurant on several occasions. It is a pleasant place,& the staff is fantastic. I ordered in two different occasions Pad Thai, both time the Pad Thai was very, too salted. I will like to appeal to those responsible, Please pay attention to this matter.
Extremely popular restaurant in Westmount (always full). Prices reasonable. Service impeccable. Generous portions of delicious food (most of the time we have to ask for a doggy bag). At the end of each meal, we are served fortune cookies with a plate full of delicious walnuts. It has become our regular dinner hang-out. Worth a detour!

This is an okay restaurant for a quick & inexpensive lunch.
serves simple dishes like General Tao , which is okay , but just passable.
Food quality & preparation is not great, would not bring the GF here, but okay for a fast lunch only.
