Petit Sao is widely regarded as a charming destination for those seeking authentic, fresh, and flavorful Vietnamese cuisine. Many patrons highlight the generous portion sizes, reasonable prices, and high-quality broth found in their signature dishes, particularly the pho and grilled chicken options. The restaurant is often praised for its bright, cozy atmosphere and welcoming, professional service, with numerous visitors noting that it has become a favorite spot for solo outings, friendly gatherings, and family meals. While some guests have encountered occasional inconsistencies with service speed or specific dish quality, many loyal customers continue to return for the consistently delicious menu and the overall pleasant experience provided by the attentive staff.
I have not tried the other locations, but this one seems a bit sad unfortunately. Overall, everything was low quality & overpriced, & we have tried different items.
The rice & noodle bowls were bland, noodles were sticky & bland, the side sauces couldn't do much to revive the dish. The Pho was mediocre, it lacked flavour & texture, the ratio of meat to noodle to veggies was off. Overall, considering the quality & the price of the dishes served, I would not recommend this place for a Vietnamese experience. It's okay at best for grabbing an overpriced meal, but that's about it .
Overall, the Vietnamese food here is okay, but definitely not authentic. We tried both the pork & chicken bowls. The meat was good, but the fish sauce didn't have much flavor, which kind of ruined the dish.
Wouldn't recommend the iced coffee-it's nothing like Vietnamese coffee. & $6.50 for a regular filter coffee? That's just too much.
Also, the service is not very good. I had to remind them three times for extra napkins
A lovely experience with kind service. The bowls are huge & delicious. Shrimp chips were not what I had expected, but very satisfying. The fried wontons are a great appetizer come with a sweet sauce. Perfect side to a rich bowl of pho! Jasmin iced tea is refreshing & sweet! The limo jade drink has a particular taste, great if you like coconut & grass.
I came to have lunch & to order a take-out lunch. I liked the food, the grilled chicken with rice vermicelli etc., a bit of water at the bottom of my bowl at the end, the sauce offered is good but sticks a little to the vermicelli etc. The coffee comes with the lunch, but I had to ask for it at the end of my meal & despite having paid for two meals, I only got one coffee. Good coffee though. The salad portion with the meals is a bit bland, I don't know if it's the preparation or if it's put in the fridge well in advance of the service. The pork is good, but be careful for people who don't like strong ginger or lemongrass marinades. The spring rolls are good but have a lot of grated carrot. A bit small too. I think the option of taking or not taking the bean sprouts & lime next to the bowls of soup would be appropriate, to reduce food waste. I liked the somewhat discreet service less, but it may be my style & preferences in terms of customer service or that I am a Millennial. I will go back with my partner, I will try something else, the chicken sandwich is good - even better with an addition of sriracha to consider!
Let's give the compliment where is due. The Place looks great, the menu has great potential. The items looked attractive & well thought out. But for us the most important point is the execution/taste of the food. & somewhat the service. We tried the curry chicken. The beef pho, the bun chicken bowl & the chicken vermicelli soupe/pho. Overall the taste of food was very disappointing. - The curry is too acidic, flavour profile not well balanced & not very complexe. We love Asian curries. Have tried 30+ Asian curry restaurant in Canada, & 50+ asians curries around the world. This is one of the worst. - the bun don't have enough authentic sauce/punch of flavour. It was rather blend. - the soups are good enough. Probably the best item out of what we were able to try at the restaurant. But after trying at least 20+ Vietnamese restaurant around Montreal. I would say it's a little below average. Ingredients are fresh. No problem there. The decors are cute. The service was slow, but the servers are nice & came to apologies a few times as they forgot us a few times & spilled hot soupe almost on my toodler. Overall feels this restaurant has potential, but definitely need a few adjustment in term of flavour execution.
