📍 Rutba, Montreal | The ultimate Indian food craving solved! 🌟

Safe to say this is one of the best Indian dining spots in the city. Here is what you need to order:

🔹 Baingan Bharta: Pure comfort food. Gentle, home-like, but elevates traditional flavors to the next level.
🔹 The Breads: The lachha paratha is beautifully flaky, & the rotis are light & fresh.
🔹 Tandoori Pomfret & Pineapple Starter: Smokey, succulent, & perfectly charred. The tandoor skills here are unmatched.

A 10/10 Montreal food guide recommendation! 🗺?✨

The restaurant's ambiance is the best...no literally, the decor & the vibe is the best part of this restaurant. Food, not so much. We ordered some appetizer lasooni murg which was sold out & the server offered a replacement bhatti murg which was great but very flat because it had a lot of cream. We wanted to stay in the medium spice range since there are more flavors other than spice. We did however order the laal maas that was extremely spicy. I asked for it to be medium spicy & it really wasn't. Spiciest thing I ever ate. My stomach hurt for 2 days after. With no reward, all the food lacked salt, tartness & general cohesiveness. The server told us she would make the dish on the house if we didn't like it but proceeded to explain to me how i was wrong about the laal maas & bhatti murg. I asked for lime to cut the spice which seems to have saved the day. I understand when you have huge volumes but it was rather unbusy. However it was end of day & everyone could've been exhausted from a long day but I see no reason to revisit. I really didn't want to write this review since all other reviews from everyone seem to be so great, but this was my one off odd experience!

Update: the server got the order wrong & thats why we had the raita. We ordered the onion salad. We raised it immediately when she brought us the food. Yes the raita was on the house & I forgot to add it. We also asked for plain roti & got butter roti. Also, yes this was my honest experience.

A perfect blend of flavors, ambiance, & hospitality ✨
The vibe of this place was absolutely beautiful - warm lighting, elegant interiors, & such a relaxing atmosphere. Every dish looked aesthetic & tasted even better than it looked. 🌿🍛

What made the experience even more memorable was the amazing service by Ash & Sam. They were incredibly welcoming, attentive, & made us feel genuinely taken care of throughout the evening.

Great food, great energy, & great people - definitely a place worth coming back to. 🤍

Our first visit to Rutba was such a delight - tasty food, cozy ambiance, & friendly service. We may have ordered a bit too much, but everything was so good it was hard not to.

The star for us was the Telangana chicken curry: bold flavors with curry leaves giving off a beautiful perfumed aroma. The lamb rogan josh was also a favorite.

We couldn't resist the Rasmalai Tres Leches dessert, which did not disappoint. The flavors of cardamom, rose, & pistachio in this tiramisu-style sweet were divine. A perfect way to end a wonderful meal.

The space is casual & comfortable, & the staff are attentive & kind.

We're already planning our return for the samosa chaat, one of their many butter chicken variations, & another round of that Rasmalai dessert.

Amazing food, but the service needs a personal touch.

The Good:
We visited Montreal for the first time & chose Rutba based on its excellent reputation. The food certainly lived up to the hype-everything was delicious & very reasonably priced. The atmosphere & seating were comfortable, & most of the staff were polite & professional.

The Critique:
Unfortunately, the experience was dampened by one individual (who appeared to be the owner or a senior server). We felt an air of superiority & a lack of warmth that made us feel unwelcome. In a city where everyone else was incredibly friendly & welcoming, this stood out in a negative way.

Verdict:
The flavors are 5-star, but the management could benefit from training their staff on how to engage neutrally & warmly with every customer. We loved the meal, but we hope the hospitality matches the quality of the kitchen next time.

The flavors are on point! It's a famous place among locals too. Must must must try when in Montreal. Their in house paneer was so fresh & soft!

Attentive & friendly service from Sim & others. Best Indian food we've had in Montreal in terms of flavor, creativity & presentation. The place was vibing with the cool decor, happy customers, sounds of drinks being mixed, & the guitar player! It was a Friday night.

We had a nice dinner at Rutba & explored quite a bit of the menu.

The appetizers were definitely the highlight! The Mahi Moti was perfectly crispy on the outside with lovely flaky fish inside, & the Banarasi Cutlet had a great crunch & a surprising little kick of spice that we really enjoyed.

For the mains, the Mewa Mawa Kofta was a standout-the curry was incredibly smooth, rich, & flavorful. We paired everything with the Naan au beurre, which was fresh & hit the spot.

The only slight disappointment was the Lamb Biryani. We ordered it medium spicy, & while the flavor was there, the consistency was a bit watery, which isn't quite what you expect from a biryani.

5/5 Stars - Hands down the best Indian food I've had in Montréal!
I recently visited this incredible Indian restaurant with my family, & it was an absolute standout experience from start to finish. The chef here is clearly very experienced & passionate - you can taste the authentic touch in every single dish. It's like having a master cook prepare a home-style feast with perfect balance of spices & flavors.
The naan was phenomenal - fresh from the tandoor, soft, fluffy, slightly charred on the edges, & buttery in the best way possible. We ordered garlic naan & plain, & both disappeared in minutes because they were that good! Paired perfectly with the curries.
Speaking of the curries, they were superb - rich, aromatic, & full of depth without being overwhelmingly spicy (though you can ask for more heat if you like). We tried the butter chicken, paneer tikka masala, & a lamb curry - all were flavorful, creamy where they should be, & the spices were layered beautifully. The portions were generous, & everything tasted fresh & made with care.
The atmosphere was warm & welcoming, making it ideal for a family outing. The staff was friendly & attentive, & they made sure our kids enjoyed their milder options too. No rush, comfortable seating, & the whole place felt inviting.
This is easily the best Indian restaurant I've come across in Montréal - authentic, delicious, & worth every penny. We had such a great time that we're already planning our next visit. Highly recommend to anyone craving real Indian flavors! Will definitely be coming back soon. ❤?

Loved this Indian spot-4 stars for killer butter chicken, fluffy garlic naan, speedy friendly service, & unbeatable value! Bursting with flavor, though the wait was a tad long on a busy night. Still highly recommend for a tasty night out!
