About

Royal Punjab focuses on the bold, aromatic traditions of Indian and Pakistani cuisine with an emphasis on authentic spice profiles and traditional cooking methods. The menu features a comprehensive selection of vegetarian curries, slow-cooked legumes, and tandoor-fired breads that provide a genuine representation of South Asian culinary heritage. Sizzling platters of marinated proteins and vegetables showcase the balance of heat and savoriness inherent in the regional styles. Diners encounter a straightforward atmosphere where the aromatic complexity of cumin, coriander, and garam masala defines every prepared dish. Each plate prioritizes the integrity of fresh ingredients while maintaining the deep, layered flavors expected from these specific cultural preparations. This establishment delivers a consistent experience rooted in the mastery of classic masalas and the artisanal preparation of staple grains.

Review Summary

Royal Punjab is widely regarded as a hidden gem that delivers authentic and flavorful Indian cuisine, characterized by generous portions and affordable prices. Diners frequently praise the quality of staples like chole bhatura, naan, and various dosas, noting that the restaurant offers a warm, welcoming environment with friendly and attentive service. While the savory dishes consistently receive high marks for their traditional taste and spice levels, some feedback suggests that the dessert selection is less impressive than the main courses. Overall, the establishment is celebrated for providing a wholesome, home-style dining experience that represents excellent value for the community.

My favorite restaurant in the neighbourhood

I recently visited this place because word-of-mouth touted its chole bhatura - & they really deliver. The chole was rich & well-seasoned, & the bhatura came fluffy, warm, & perfectly puffed. Hands down some of the best chole bhatura I've had in a while.

That said, I'd recommend skipping dessert: the sweets we tried were disappointing - bland, underwhelming, & a major let-down after such a strong main dish. If you're there, go for the savory dishes & say no to the sweets.

Overall: great for a solid Indian meal - especially if you crave chole bhatura - but don't expect much from the dessert menu.

I love this place. The server who is most often there, Manjit, is SO sweet, lovely, & accommodating. The food is amazing, & the thali deal can't be beat. Such good value for beautiful, flavourful & nourishing meals every time. There is also a (?) magic window where, on even the most stifling of days, maintains a consistent breeze through it. Snag the window seat if you can! Excellent food/service/value. One of Montreal's best Punjabi restaurants hands down!

Naan bread was excellent. Perfect texture.
Dal makhani was good.
Channa was decent.
The curry chicken had a good amount of meat in it. Sauce flavor was alright but I found the chicken to have a weird texture. Not my cup of tea.
Pricing was fair. Overall good value.

5 of us were seated by the kind waitress, Manjit, in a cozy corner of the restaurant where we could relax, have conversation & dine. The atmosphere was well arranged to allow us space to talk & for others to work on their computer or chat with friends. The TV was not too loud. We knew what we wanted to order. The waitress, Manjit, was genuinely pleased that we knew what we wanted because she loves her Punjabi culture & wanted us to share & enjoy Punjabi food. & what a selection! They had Dosas which ordinarily come from Southern India. Punjabi cultural experience is Northern India. They had Indian street food like chat papri. We enjoyed fish pakoras. The chai was homemade & not from the machine which combines powdered milk & tea mixed with spices. The mango lassi was excellent.
All the other servers were very friendly & seemed to enjoy seeing us Westerners enjoying the food. Such integration of two cultures makes businesses like this succeed. & staff at Royal Punjabi on Jarry St. excelled at making our experience wholesome & amazing.
