Restaurant Iris is widely celebrated for offering an authentic taste of Mexican and Salvadoran cuisine, with many diners highlighting the genuine Veracruz style as a standout feature. Guests frequently praise the delicious quality and generous portions of dishes like mole enchiladas, tamales, chilaquiles, and seafood options, noting that the food feels like a homemade meal. The atmosphere is consistently described as welcoming, warm, and relaxing, providing an experience that makes visitors feel as though they have been transported directly to Mexico. Service is also a major highlight, with the staff often recognized for their friendliness, professionalism, and attentive nature, ensuring that guests feel comfortable and valued throughout their visit. While the vast majority of feedback is glowing and emphasizes the restaurant's role as a hidden gem in Montreal, a few minor suggestions regarding service attentiveness and facility comfort have been noted, though they do not diminish the overall reputation of this highly recommended dining spot.

Lovely place, the food is delicious & very affordable. (FYI this review was written when Iris specialized in Salvadoran pupusas. The restaurant switched owners since then & is now a Mexican restaurant that I haven't tried.)

From the moment we walked into this Mexican restaurant, it was clear we were in for something special. The atmosphere immediately felt welcoming & relaxed - the kind of place where you can take your time, enjoy your food, & actually settle into the experience rather than feeling rushed out the door.

Let me start with the food, because it was genuinely excellent.

I ordered the Mole enchilada, & it was outstanding. The mole sauce was rich, deep, & layered with flavor - not overly sweet, not bitter, & clearly made with care & patience. You could really taste the complexity that makes mole such a special dish when it's done right. The enchilada itself was perfectly cooked, generously portioned, & balanced beautifully with the sauce. Every bite felt comforting & indulgent without being heavy. This is the kind of dish you think about after you leave.

To go with it, I had a Corona, which paired perfectly with the meal. Cold, refreshing, & exactly what you want alongside bold, flavorful Mexican food. Simple, classic, & satisfying.

My friend ordered the'Come Back to Life', & honestly, that name couldn't have been more accurate. It was fresh, vibrant, & bursting with flavor - the kind of dish that wakes up your palate & makes you feel energized halfway through the meal. You could tell the ingredients were fresh, & the flavors were thoughtfully put together rather than just thrown on a plate.

What really stood out to both of us was how well-executed everything was. Nothing felt rushed or careless. The food came out hot, beautifully presented, & clearly made by people who care about what they're serving. Portions were generous without being over-the-top, & we left feeling satisfied rather than stuffed.

Beyond the food, the overall experience made the meal even better. The vibe was relaxed & inviting, making it a great spot to enjoy good conversation while eating genuinely great food. It's the kind of place you'd happily return to - whether for a casual dinner, a night out with friends, or when you're specifically craving quality Mexican cuisine.

In short:
The food was really, really good.
The Mole enchilada alone is worth the visit, & paired with a cold Corona, it made for a near-perfect meal. Add in dishes like the Come Back to Life, & it's clear this place knows what it's doing.

Highly recommended, & we'll definitely be back.
