Review Summary

Poutine Centrale is widely celebrated as a fantastic destination for authentic poutine, offering an extensive and delicious variety of toppings that keep visitors coming back. Located conveniently near local attractions like the Biodome and botanical gardens, the restaurant is frequently praised for its cool, industrial-style atmosphere, welcoming service, and engaging touches like interactive chalk drawing. While some diners have noted occasional wait times during busy periods, the high quality of the fresh fries, squeaky cheese curds, and flavorful gravy consistently earns high marks. Guests appreciate the generous portions, the accommodating staff who assist English speakers, and the overall chill vibe that makes it a must-visit spot in Montreal.

This place was awesome! We ate there 3 times while on vacation. The classic poutine is great & we really enjoyed the Philly cheesesteak version as well. Highly recommend!

NOT WORTH THE WAIT

As someone with a background in the restaurant industry & extensive QSR experience, I understand operational efficiency. Watching at least six different parties, including ours, wait over 30 minutes for an order is completely unacceptable.

It is poutine. Fries, cheese, & gravy are prepped & ready to assemble, so a party of three or four should never wait longer than 8 minutes. I timed the orders as they came up, & individual poutines were taking over 8 minutes each to complete. The staff showed zero urgency, moving at a snail's pace regardless of how busy it was. Tournament food trucks serve crowds at three times this speed with a fraction of the setup, so there is really no excuse.

Extremely disappointing service. We will not be back.

Great little poutine spot! Perfect combination of squeaky cheese, delicious gravy & fresh cut fries! The burgers are great too!! Bonus, they spoke English!

Amazing poutine! One of the best we had in Montreal. & the cheese curds squeak as they're supposed to 😁

Great spot for poutine. The cheese squeaks so you know it's good.

Poutine with sour cream, bacon, cheese was great. Chicken was good, but the barbecue chicken poutine with slaw wasn't as good.

I feel bad rating a 2 because the guy was nice. He explained the limited menu right when we walked in, & the service was good. Genuinely - the poutine just wasn't great. The cheese was squeaky, but I felt there was no flavor to the gravy, & the fries tasted like old fair fries. It was also only two guys working, we got a dirty fork, & a glance into the kitchen area sent me spiraling because I'm a bit high maintenance with cleanliness & it just wasn't up to my standard. There were no glaring red flags, but I still was fighting back a panic attack over a freaking bowl of poutine! The tables aren't comfortable. They're a bit odd & don't work for young kids. The playlist was good, though. 90s vibe. Wouldn't return, personally but hope they can improve if this is their dream!

Fun little spot with tasty food at a good price, within easy walking distance of the Botanical Gardens. The classic poutine had a rich gravy & they were VERY generous with the cheese curds, which is always a plus. Nice fresh coleslaw with a tangy dressing, & a wide selection of premium soft drinks made it easy to round out the meal.

Staff is very friendly & were patient with an anglophone like myself; counter service was prompt, with food being brought out to the table. Restaurant is busy with takeout service, but the space is well appointed so you can relax with your food without feeling rushed. Atmosphere is hip without trying too hard, it definitely has that unique Montréal vibe!

The Small order of French Fries was really big!
My wife & I even shared our fries with her uncle last weekend while totally enjoying our burgers (cheese, cheese & bacon, smash) next to a freshly delivered pallet of 700lbs of potatoes.
Perfect blanching. Perfect re-fry & seasoning.
Cooked in beef fat the way they should be.
No trace of old, dirty oil stank like most poutine joints, & not a spot of grease left on the checker paper when we finished. 👊
Those were some of the best fries I've ever eaten. Perfect.
Bravo.
