About

Polari functions as a minimalist wine bar centered on the appreciation of natural viticulture within a warm, intimate interior. The menu prioritizes high-quality small plates designed for sharing, featuring fresh, savory elements that pair easily with the thoughtfully curated bottles. The aesthetic relies on clean lines and a relaxed tone, creating a space where the focus remains entirely on the sensory details of the pour. Each plate emphasizes simple preparations that bring out the natural character of the ingredients. The environment feels grounded and unpretentious, relying on a quiet, rhythmic energy to define the experience. This establishment serves as a deliberate study in pared-back enjoyment, where the interplay between the glass and the plate remains the sole priority for the quiet room.

Review Summary

Polari is widely celebrated as a cozy, queer-friendly neighborhood gem in Montreal, perfect for those who appreciate a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. The establishment is best known for its expertly curated natural wine list and thoughtful selection of simple yet delicious snacks, which are designed to pair perfectly with every glass. Many guests value the knowledgeable staff who offer personalized recommendations, creating a welcoming experience where one can feel right at home. While the space is compact and leans more toward casual drinks and light bites than a full dining experience, the charm of the converted garage setting and the focus on quality ingredients make it a favorite spot for friends, dates, and locals looking to enjoy a high-quality, unpretentious evening.

Polari in Montreal is a casual, relaxed spot that's best for drinks with friends rather than a full dinner.

It has a very good selection of wines, & ordering is done at the counter, which keeps the experience simple & laid-back.

The food is good but quite simple, more light bites & snacks than anything heavy or elaborate.

Overall, it's a great place to grab a drink, share a few plates, & hang out, with a strong focus on wine rather than a full dining experience.

Went to Polari a couple of times in the past few weeks & had always had a great time.

The food portions aren't big, so it takes a few different plates if you're looking to make a meal, but they're all delicious (even the bread with whipped butter is a hit!) & perfect for snacking.

The wine selection is excellent, varied, & just extensive enough to keep things interesting without being overwhelming. For non-wine drinkers, the cocktails are also top notch & the beer selection is small but solid.

The service is absolutely wonderful! Everyone is very friendly & super knowledgeable about both the food & drinks, so if you're unsure of what to take, they'll be able to help guide you to something you'll enjoy.

The decor is simple, but strikes an awesome balance between chic & warm/cozy. Music adds to the atmosphere, but is still quiet enough that you can easily talk without needing to raise your voice.

I definitely recommend Polari for a drink & snacks!

This is honestly one of the most refreshing spots to go to in the city. I've been quite a bit of times over the past year & I can earnestly say that the wine list has been incredibly curated, affordable & everything glass I've had has been insanely delicious. The food also packs its punch. Small sharing plates with produce from JT market & fish/seafood conservas in cans that I'm a total sucker for. Can't recommend this place enough 🫰

Tiny place with great wine selection. Sadly not a lot of food options, & the plates they have are laughably small & overpriced (chips & ranch dip, beans, the butt of a baguette with one sliver of butter). I would come back for a glass of wine before dinner, but not more.
