Reviews often mention
seafood(55) fish(50) fruits de mer(44) fresh(44) poisson(30) recommend(22) shrimp(19) fried(19) prix(16) calamari(15) salad(13) crevette(12)I used to work in a seafood kitchen so my love i dear. I went for the fish & chips & the fish portion was horrible undercooked & also chewy. Bad portion as well. On top of this when I went to pickup for takeout they had a cash only which of course had an atm even though they had a debit machine. Charge me an extra 3$ to take out cash. Something they could have said on the phone. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
On y prend goût. Une belle réussite.
Food is good but beware of the men, yes mostly men (or maybe women) working here especially at the cashier. If you pay cash, make sure to check the itemized bill. They automatically include the tip which they won't bother to tell you. When you ask questions, they try to use the'intimidation tactics' so you will stop asking & might give them double the tip (you can, if you want). Just don't stop asking, it's your right. Service waiters were good though, it's best to give them the tip directly, if you want to pay more'tip'.
Rayan is a favourite of mine, I am a regular. It reminds me of being in Egypt where fresh fish has been caught. You pick your fish & let them know how you would like it prepared & seasoned. Our favourites the smelt, shrimps, potatoe wedges & salad. There is bound to be left overs. Portions are generous. The seasoning, textures & freshness are unbeatable. They have sustainable take boxes & paper bags. We were three women & could not eat it all. Served family style. The owner is a delightful Egyptian Canadian gentlemen. The staff, team are helpful. Service is great. The flavours, freshness of our seafood & fish dishes are delicious. I feel as if I am by a seaside restaurant in Alexandria or the Red Sea. With Egyptian music playing in the background. Fun as I would recognise the music!
They have no beer, wine, alcohol nor is it a BYOW.( just like in Egypt). They do have Egyptian soft drinks.
Its always full after 20h00. The diners come diverse backgrounds, just like the neighbourhood & it is just beautiful.
If you are a sea food lover, this is your place, whether eastern or western recipes, helpful & clean staff, whenever I visit Montreal, I do not miss this chance to visit Rayan, although I noticed the prices increased a little bit lately, but still, one the best!
