I first discovered Patachon around 4pm on a warm Thursday in early August, about a month after they opened. My friend & I were on our way to dinner when the beautiful pastries in the window caught my attention. Then I noticed the warm wood, plants & little green details inside, it's my favorite color, so of course i didn't need any more of a reason to stop inside & check it out.
Since we were heading to dinner, I tried to behave myself & kept it simple with a bag of six classic chouquettes for only $2.50. They were perfectly airy & crispy & practically melted in my mouth. Six for $2.50 also felt like slightly dangerous information for me to learn considering Patachon is only a few steps from Laurier metro on the orange line.
We already knew we wanted to come back when we had more time, so my friend invited me back with her that Saturday morning while she filmed some content for the café.
On our second visit, I got to chat with Clara, the owner, who is soo sweet. I especially loved learning the story behind the name. She explained that Patachon is a play on pâte à choux, fitting for a pâtisserie known for treats like chouquettes. But patachon is also an old French word connected to the expression mener une vie de patachon, meaning to live a carefree, pleasure-filled kind of life. I thought the double meaning was such a fun detail, & honestly pretty fitting for a place dedicated to pastries & little indulgences.
This time we properly explored the pastry case. The seasonal peach, thyme & lemon tart was easily the standout for me. It was fresh, fruity & really well balanced, such a delicious summer dessert. I also really liked the classic lemon tart, which was bright, fresh & perfectly sour. For drinks, I tried their seasonal salted caramel latte warm while my friend went for the iced version.
I really like the feel of the space too. There are exposed brick walls & wooden ceiling beams mixed with warm wood furniture, woven lights, plants & little green accents throughout. Smooth French music was playing through a vintage-looking speaker, & behind the counter you can actually see trays of pastries & some of the work happening in the kitchen. I watched Victor make fresh fraisiers & pull chouquettes out of the oven while we were there.
The pastry display is definitely hard to ignore. Beyond what we tried, I was intrigued by the croissants, chocolatines, almond chocolatines, brioche, cookies, fraisiers, flan & more. They also have a small lunch menu with things like a smash burger, grilled cheese & salad, but clearly I haven't made it past the pastry case yet.
My inability to stay away from decadent pastries & cute neighborhood cafés led me to a pretty great new discovery. After two visits, I'm already curious to see what seasonal pastries Patachon comes up with next. & looking through my photos while writing this review was probably a mistake because now I'm craving the flan & chocolate mousse I somehow managed not to order.

Great coffee, a beautiful space, & friendly, inviting hosts. How lucky were we that this patisserie opened just 2 weeks before our visit to Montreal? We only had time to take our coffees'emporter' - next time, we'll definitely stay longer.
Super petit café, les proprios sont très sympas, le flan au chocolat & le thé glacé étaient délicieux 😋
