Review Summary

Palais Thai garners strong praise for flavorful, consistently good food and generous portions, with many reviewers naming it one of the best restaurants in Quebec and highlighting soups, especially a wonton soup whose delicate wrappers and rich broth stand out. The cuisine is described as unique and delicious, and the service is often friendly, though some visits experience longer waits or a busy dining room that can slow things down. A bring-your-own-wine policy is noted, and reservations are recommended to avoid disappointments. Most comments suggest returning when in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, and many feel the overall experience is worth it, yet a few reviews describe ordinary flavors, excessive smoke in the dining area, or a curry that misses expected Thai notes, reminding readers that experiences can vary.

Quick service, bustling staff, & I would love for this little resto to succeed - - but sadly this was the first Thai food I have NOT enjoyed(!) The Panang curry had none of the usual peanutty deliciousness, but tasted like oiled down sweet Skippy butter - no hint of coconut milk or chili (the veggies & chicken were nicely cooked but drowned in inedible sauce). The "Thai salad" was served luke-warm as a confused mixture of iceberg lettuce, cucumbers & crispy vermicelli with no hint of lime or coriander to flavour. Local families clearly enjoy bringing bottles of wine (which is maybe a necessity to wash down the food, even though Thai is usually best paired with BEER)... but overall, a disappointment. Avoid the "Siem Reap curry"... or possibly the entire experience. :(

Ordered takeout for the first time: Chicken Pad Thai, Bangkok Chicken, Thai soup & Amiral Tao. The only thing that is eatable are the soups & the Amiral Tao. The Pad Thai is bland, tastes like pasta, with next to no chicken. The Bangkok Chicken smelled weird, like the farm & the taste was just not there. The Amiral chicken was tasty as well as the Thai soup. I'm not sure I'd give this place a second try.

On y reviendra 100% sûr!
