Olive et Gourmando is widely celebrated as a must-visit destination in Old Montreal, consistently praised for its high-quality food, exceptional pastries, and vibrant, cozy atmosphere. Visitors frequently rave about the delicious Cuban sandwich, various breakfast paninis, and the standout ricotta dishes, noting that the ingredients are fresh and expertly prepared. While the restaurant is undeniably popular, leading to frequent queues and a bustling, sometimes noisy environment, many guests find the experience well worth the wait. The staff is often described as friendly and efficient, contributing to an energetic vibe that makes it a favorite spot for both locals and tourists alike to enjoy a memorable brunch or a high-quality coffee.
We decided to try Olive & Gourmando based on all the great reviews & are really glad we did. Try to get here early if you're planning to come for breakfast, as it can get busy. We waited about 20 minutes for a table, & there is bench seating outside while you wait.
I ordered the Cubain & peach cobbler French toast. My wife & daughter shared another Cubain & peach cobbler French toast, & my daughter also had the granola bowl. The granola bowl had a nice mix of crunch & sweetness, along with plenty of fresh fruit.
The Cubain was terrific. The pancetta, roasted pork & raw-milk Gruyère were a great combination of salty & spicy flavours. The panini bread was grilled to perfection, as every bite was nice & crispy.
The peach cobbler French toast was also excellent & nicely balanced without being too sweet. The caramelized peaches, whipped labneh & sliced almonds paired really well together, & the French toast was crispy on the outside while still soft inside. The maple syrup was served on the side so you could add as much or as little as you wanted.
Service was fast & friendly even though the restaurant was busy. They regularly came around to make sure we always had a full bottle of water on the table.
This spot is definitely a must-try if you're in Old Montréal. While the sandwiches are a bit expensive, they're totally worth it. These are bespoke sandwiches made with fresh, high-quality ingredients, & the service is impeccable. Highly recommended!!
Our hotel recommended this place for breakfast & there was zero disappointments. I got the ham & cheese on scone & a cinnamon bun. Both were excellent. My wife got the chocolate croissant & it was sub par. There was almost zero chocolate in it & it was cold. We both had Flat White coffees that were excellent.
Great spot! Pastries are delicious, I got almond croissant & a cappuccino. They have a kitchen , bunch of different options for brunch. Bowls, salads, sandwiches
Vibe is amazing, it reminds me a Williamsburg NYC. Service was nice & fast, everyone is friendly. Recommend
What a gem! This charming little café offers fantastic food at surprisingly reasonable prices for the location. The menu creatively combines traditional old-country flavors with modern elements, making for a unique & delicious experience. The coffee was exceptional, & their pastries were absolutely wonderful, fresh, flavorful, & the perfect complement to a morning coffee. The staff handled the crowds with impressive poise, professionalism, & a positive attitude. Highly recommended!
Great breakfast spot that was recommended by a friend. Very fresh ingredients & fantastic sandwiches! The Cubain sandwich was delicious, as was the smashed potato salad. Its a bit tight for seating but totally worth the visit. Its a busy spot right from open so it may be a bit of a wait but again, very much worth it. Our server was great & so was the staff. Nice breakfast spot!
We loved the brunch here & came here twice during our stay in Montreal. First time was during weekdays & had to wait for 25min, which was fine as we made a 15min stroll & came back for our table. Second time was on Saturday around 11, & got our table with 20min thanks to others leaving the queue… recommend the cuban melt, the italian baked egg & things from the sweet bakery at the front. Only downside, only 1 toilet for lots of ppl. Service was good, friendly staff & fast.
Went on a Friday morning with my friend who recommended the place as one of her favorite brunch spots in the city. We got there around 11 am & there's already a line of people waiting in front of the restaurant. 50 minutes later, we finally got seated at one of the small tables inside the restaurant (we could probably get seated a bit quicker if we're willing to sit at a shared table, but since we wanted a private table, we waited a little longer).
What we ordered:
🍑 🍞 Peach Cobbler French Toast • 8/10
This was good, but it was a little bit too sweet for my personal taste. Still finished the whole thing though.
🍳 Tex-Mex Baked Eggs • 8/10
This was also pretty good. Might also be the healthier choice between our two orders.
All & all, I think the food here is pretty solid. They have a selection of delicious looking pastries & baked goods too that we didn't get to try cause we were full (maybe next time). The restaurant itself is pretty cozy with that warm atmosphere of a friendly neighborhood brunch spot. There's usually quite a wait for a table so make sure you come early or be prepared to wait for a bit.
Le plat était délicieux
La décoration sympathique
Je mets 4 étoiles car le lieu est extrêmement bruyant & la serveuse ne nous a pas annoncé dès le départ les plats à la carte qui étaient épuisés
Je recommande quand même !
SUCH an amazing place. The menu was unreal, such such fresh food. Salmon was the best I've ever had. The salads were unbelievably fresh. Service was amazing, & the atmosphere is so cute & cozy!!!! Could not recommend more!!! & great prices too.
