Overall, Nouveau Système Beaubien reads as a retro diner that delivers generous portions at very reasonable prices, with a menu that covers classic comfort fare including burgers, hot dogs, poutine, breakfasts, and even pizza. The atmosphere is described as cozy, nostalgic, and family friendly, with retro decor, friendly and attentive staff, quick service, and a vibe that makes guests feel at home. Reviewers praise the quality and flavor, especially the poutine, fries, burgers, and breakfast plates, and note reliable value. Many highlight that the place is a dependable spot for casual, fast, satisfying meals, drawing locals and visitors alike when in the area. Some mention long standing appeal and a sense of being part of a welcoming, almost familial community. Yet there are concerns about cleanliness at times and occasional slowness in service, particularly during peak periods, and one highly negative report describes a serious incident involving a staff member and payment handling. Despite these outliers, the overall impression is of a beloved, budget friendly diner that continues to attract comfort food lovers and those seeking a nostalgic dining experience.

I've been going to this restaurant since I last discovered it in 1992.. The hotdogs & fries were the best .. The waitresses super friendly & always eager to please .Over the years I've moved away ,regardless , always came back once a year at least , for the best fries & cheeseburgers .. Today June 2025 ,Unfortunately I had the rarest & horrible experience for the first time .. My fries were old & gummy & all black burnt , the cook used old fries, my husband's cheese hamburger the bacon was totally burnt.. The salad they served had an arm hair in it ..
When I got to paying , I've always paid with cash in the past, this time I only had cash for tip , so I used my debit card & as I used the interac , I skipped the tip & the read ,went back to nil ,so I asked the waitress
If she could just reenter the amount , she grabbed my debit card out of my hand , without asking my permission , used the tap button , & passed the amount without my consent or authorization, I was so upset never use tap & worst of all she took my debit card , could you imagine the audacity of this waitress to steal my debit card out of my hand & use it by herself in what she thought was the right method of paying without my consent .. She also looked like she was on crack , totally lost & hyper .. I was in utter shock , not only was this illegal what she did ripping my debit card out of my hand but also so disrespectful & unprofessional.. I told her & she started whispering « I'm sorry « .. so that the owner wouldn't hear me complaining abt what she did to me.
My experience today was one horrible one ,in over 30 years the first time I can say the food was horrible would not pass inspection ,the service , was illegal she practically stole my debit card off my hand & tapped it without my consent & the owner just stood there lost to what was happening in front of his eyes ..
Really sorry that this happened ..
I needed to write this so that the owner knows & so that people out there know also that this place is amazing & was for so many years , all you need is one bad waitress to ruin everything..
We will never go back again ..

Incredibly friendly service at the takeout counter or the table. VERY good prices for above average quality on this type of food. If you're hanging out anywhere on Beaubien, this is my #1 recommendation for any type of diner food. If you're looking for a spot to try Quebec style fast food for the first time, it's my #1 in Montreal. Please give it a try!!!
Visiting from Toronto & Ottawa, right across the street from our air b&b.
We only speak English & our server tried so hard to communicate with us, her English was very good!
Food was sooooo fast! Out within 5 minutes of ordering. Hot & fresh!
Tasted fantastic, great service & staff were very friendly!
We will definitely visit the next time we're in town!
I love this place so much, it's such a throwback. The staff are super friendly & know my regular order, the food arrives fast & is always delicious, the vibes are great & it's clean. I love everything about it!
The original diner experience that you've been looking for. It felt like I was taking a step into a Time Machine & going back 20 years with the vintage atmosphere. First off, I suggest coming here with a big appetite. The menu has a massive variety & the portions are very generous (as are the prices). In the few times I've been here, I've ordered more food than I'm proud of including classic breakfast, chicken poutine, Philly steak sandwich, grilled cheese, clubhouse, hot chicken sandwich, & more. The fries are some of the best in Montreal & the poutine is banging. They have comfy booth seating here as well. Whether it's breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a snack, this is the spot.
The BEST steamers of all Quebec. Nouveau Systeme Hotdogs is absolutely & incredibly phenomenal. I order those steamers 6 at a time. The fries a fresh cut & prepared fresh to order. The service is friendly & courteous. The decor & atmosphere is traditional diner. It's like walking into a movie set. The cooks are right there behind the counter preparingvthe food & ready to greet you as you walk in. The waitress eagerly seat you & are ready to take your order. 6 steamers please, all dressed, fries, & a diet coke. I can do it in my sleep. The portions are generous, the prices are reasonable, & the good is phenomenal. Comfort food at its best whether spring, summer, fall, or winter. I rate Nouveau Systeme Hotdogs 6 out of 5 mustaches for its perfection & longevity. This place has been around longer than me. That says it all.
Feels like entering a time machine & stepping back into the 70's, when you walk in. Excellent staff/service, poutine italienne, cheeseburgers & fries. Not too keen on the fish'n chips - having grown up in the UK, I know what it should taste like😊
Hard working cooks, servers & staff provide great quality Greek/Québec-style diner fare; which for these times is fairly priced. Listing since established 1952 on their old school front signage the large menu above the open kitchen, seating & decor are fitting of the era - despite some likely tweaks & slight updates/'fixes' over the decades. On my first visit I got a freshly made tuna sandwich on toasted brown bread with tomato & cheese - that hit the spot. However, what really did & was devoured to the last morsel was their classic club sandwich which despite being a mountain of food is comprised of all the requisite platting components (the triple-decker sandwich cut in fours up the middle, the fresh cut fries to one side, plus the coleslaw & pickles balancing out the other of this heavy weight platter). The large fresh cut fries were moist & semi-sweet yet crispy enough on the outside, the sandwich was well constructed & the whole wheat toasted bread layers were interspersed with plenty of moist-enough sliced chicken, well thought out tomato pieces, shredded lettuce & crushed well cooked bacon. The two pieces of pickle were bright green vinegar-style & the coleslaw was ample & the same one they use for their all dressed hotdogs, which works well to cut the touch of fry grease. Their house blend coffee worked well for pre- & post- meal sippage. I guess over half a century of experience does matter. Did I mention it's still family owned. Keep up the great work. The staff is friendly. The atmosphere is that old school dinner atmosphere. Plus it's good food at an amazing price. Dollar for dollar it is the best place in the area for a quick bite.
Arrived here for dinner hungry, & left pleasantly full of yummy, non-nonsense, greasy spoon fare. Exactly how I like it. Friendly service, down-to-earth atmosphere, & very reasonable prices. Already planning to go back for breakfast one day.
Very friendly staff that have fun with each other & customers while they're busy preparing your meals. You can tell they like each other & what they do! Big screen TV, watching hockey while enjoying an amazing poutine, great club sandwich, yummy burger & fries! A cozy old school diner made even better by the amazing staff & great food!
The cook at this restaurant was so rude to me & my friends it made my blood boil. I had to apologize to my guest -- I was embarrassed. Montreal has many restaurants that deserve your patronage more than this one.
