Reviews often mention
chinese(34) pizza(12) prix(10) poutine(7) poulet(6) rapide(6) soup(6) fresh(6) greek(5) combo(5) club sandwich(4) italian(4)Verdun resident for 25+ years. There are 3 foundational diners in this town. & they're all good. New Verdun is my favourite. I order pizza or lasagna.
Nouveau Verdun transcends Fusion. It incorporates classic Montreal casse-croûte cuisine, Italian, Greek, & Canadian-Chinese cuisines. The food we tried was overall solid, nothing mind-blowing, but taste alone isn't the whole story.
When Montrealers ponder what food best represents the cuisine of our dear City, poutine, bagels, & smoked meat sandwiches usually come to mind. I would like to add Greek & Canadian-Chinese to that list.
Make no mistake: this isn't authentic Chinese cuisine, despite what some reviews suggest. However, dishes like chop suey & Chinese macaroni have their own charm, & actually originated from immigrants as a way to make'Chinese-ish' food accessible to Western palates.
These dishes have an amazing history & reflect the real story of how modern Montreal came to be : diverse, multicultural, shaped by the perseverance, grit, sacrifice & entrepreneurialism of immigrants. You won't find authentic Greek, Italian, or Chinese here, but if you're looking for something authentically Montreal, Nouveau Verdun is worth visiting.
Great portions, extensive menu which is great when you dont know what you're in the mood for. Exceptional service. Prices are very reasonable.
J'ai commandé une pizza & l'assiette de pita au poulet. Tout était excellent & la livraison rapide.
Very impressed by the menu with generous portions & great taste!
I was definitely sceptical when I first opened their menu, there was too much: Italian, Quebeckan, even Chinese ?! But they had me fooled, because everything ordered was delicious.
Not pictured, but the Chinese food itself was impressive. We had ordered some peanut butter sauce dumplings & a plate of Singapour noodles. The peanut butter sauce was very thick & rich, the dumplings melted away in it (although I personally like mine with a hint of spicy with slightly more bite). I was most impressed with the noodles: pieces of egg, shrimp, but visibly char siu (in its signature red sauce coating) cubes of pork ! Despite being full from my own plate, I kept poking at some noodles as I couldn't stop enjoying what felt like perfect flavoring.
My own plate of Smoked Meat hit the classic notes. While it didn't feel special, it felt authentic & like a reliable friend.
Will definitely come back !
We ordered Chinese dinner for Two for 45$
We only received the a Dinner for One + one extra piece of chicken Soo-Guy
We were charged ++$20. For 1 extra piece of chicken
The waitress is full into the scam
Basically, Dinner for One = $45.

Nothing special from New Verdun
One of the few restaurants that is not delivered through garbage ubereats. A little pricy but serves good sized plates.
