Review Summary

Reviews consistently highlight MTL Yardie as a standout for authentic Jamaican flavors in Montreal, with jerk chicken that is fall off the bone and deeply seasoned, tender oxtail, flavorful curry goat, hearty roti, and generously portioned patties at good value. The menu staples like jerk chicken wings, oxtail stuffed patty, ackee and saltfish, and pumpkin rice receive frequent praise for depth of flavor, while drinks such as sorrel and fruit punch are noted as refreshing accompaniments. The atmosphere and service are described as warm, friendly, and welcoming, making the experience feel authentic and enjoyable, though a few orders have fallen short on sides or portions and some reviewers report occasional service missteps or variability in roti and patty quality. Still, many travelers and locals alike say the quality, consistency, and hospitality keep them returning and recommending it, with multiple mentions of the place being worth the drive and a standout option for Jamaican food in the city.

Best Jamaican food I've ever tasted! I love how generous they are with their portions. I had the curry goat & the beef patty. The curry sauce was amazing, & they even smothered the rice & beans with it, which I loved. The goat was tender, the patty was crispy & well seasoned... Flawless

Had MTL Yardie on my list of places to visit & let me tell you, they did not disappoint.

The place is spotless. Was greeted with a warm welcome from the owner as I walked in. He has a real great operation going on in the back, I must give a big shoutout to the people behind the scenes because everything was fantastic!

The main reason coming here was to try the Patty stuffed with oxtails. The Patty was really good & stuffed fully with oxtails. The meat was tender & full of flavour. I definitely would recommend.

The goat roti was also delicious & packed with a good ratio of meat & potatoes. The curry flavour was present but I find could of used a better curry & pepper.(our preference) I understand you have to'turn it down to accommodate everyone'

The jerk chicken was cooked beautifully & was tender. Will say, I wonder if it is cooked on the grill but still really good.

I definitely would recommend their home made juices. The sorrel had a nice kick I. The back of my throat. Fruit punch is also really nice!!

Everything was delicious & pipping hot!!! Definitely would recommend & will be back!!

Give em' a try families!!!

Tell em' Jay sent ya!!

M.T.L. YARDIE truly deserves every bit of this 5-star rating! The food is consistently fresh, flavourful, & made with love. From the very first bite, you can taste the authenticity & passion that goes into every dish.

Their jerk chicken, oxtail, brown stew chicken, fried chicken, rice & peas, & goat curry are all outstanding - always perfectly seasoned & cooked to perfection. & for those who know… the Pumpkin Rice (a secret menu gem!) is absolutely incredible & takes the meal to another level.

On top of the amazing food, the service is warm, welcoming, & always on point. The team treats you like family every single visit, which makes the experience even better.

If you're looking for real Jamaican flavour, generous portions, & consistent quality, M.T.L. YARDIE is the spot! Highly recommended!

MTL Yardie somehow showed up on ny Instagram & for weeks I have been wanting to try it. I drove from the South Shore (traffic & all) & was not disappointed. I ordered the chicken curry rotie & the macaroni pie. My initial thought was that it was very pricey however the portions were large enough for 2 people or leftovers for another day. The chicken rotie was amazing! The macaroni pie could use a bit of seasoning but definitely didn't stop me from eating it. Haha! I will most definitely go back & recommend to others. If i had to find a negative, the only thing i could say (at least for now) is that they do not offer'breast only' options. I was hoping to try the stewed chicken & jerk chicken however I could not order just the breast meat. I had no choice but go with the rotie (it was still fantastic).

I've been here a few times to try different items from their menu. First time, the wait took about 20 mins to receive my order but the woman was very friendly so it wasn't a problem. Roti skin was decent but the curry wasn't the best & lacked some seasonings. Also, wayyy too much potato & barely any meat. Doesn't allow you to get the full potential of the meat itself. The size of the roti is about half the size that you get at other Caribbean restos for about the same price. It's like a mini roti lol. Second time, I placed my order beforehand & picked it up. Upon arriving, the owner was busy chatting so i waited. He saw me when i walked in but continued chatting. I stood at the counter & waited almost 15 mins before getting acknowledged. During the wait time, I was looking for another employee to just hand me my order that was paid for, ready & sitting there but they were busy filling stock. The owner only acknowledged me because I turned to leave. At that point, I have to admit that I didn't appreciate his attitude or dirty look but was happy to get my order & get out of there! All in all, service is a hit or miss, 50/50 chance of getting good service & the rotis are mostly filled with potato & little meat. Would give the roti a solid 6/10. Would buy again if I was really craving it but otherwise, there are better rotis at other, more authentic Caribbean restaurants. Overhyped on social media & lack of taste isn't not worth the hype or price.

Read some of the reviews & hope the response isn't that I have bad taste buds 😂😭 hope you guys step your kitchen game up & fix your service issue because I'd definitely give it another try. Otherwise, not too sure…

First time coming here, & it wont be the last. Having been to many Caribbean restaurants in the city, & being from a Caribbean background, I can wholeheartedly say, their food, & their service are first class.
The curry goat was tender, fall off the bone & full of flavour. So was the oxtail stew.
Amazingly, i'd never had their bagels, being a montreal native. So we were offered 2 to try, which was a great surprise. Do yourself a favour, & go check them out.
