Montreal Poutine delivers an authentic interpretation of Quebec culinary traditions through a focused menu centered on fresh ingredients. Hand-cut potatoes undergo precise frying to achieve an ideal golden texture, providing a structural base for thick, savory gravy. The inclusion of squeaky, high-quality cheese curds ensures the essential pull and richness expected by local enthusiasts. Smoked meat offerings feature slow-cured beef brisket sliced thin to preserve tenderness and seasoning intensity. This establishment prioritizes the classic composition of these staple dishes, emphasizing proper ratios of potato to sauce and cheese. Patrons encounter a straightforward environment where the engineering of the poutine remains the primary technical objective. Every preparation adheres to established regional standards, prioritizing ingredient integrity over unnecessary culinary embellishment or complex plating techniques throughout the diverse selection of menu variants.

Montreal Poutine is widely celebrated as a must-visit destination in Old Montreal, particularly cherished for its delicious, authentic poutine and generous portion sizes. Many diners highlight the excellent variety of toppings, such as the popular smoked meat and fried chicken options, paired with crispy fries and squeaky cheese curds. The restaurant offers a unique atmosphere, with many guests praising the beautiful, hidden courtyard and the historic, cozy charm of the building. While the experience is generally defined by friendly, efficient, and welcoming service, some patrons note that the popularity of the location can occasionally lead to busy service periods or a focus on bottled water over tap. Overall, it remains a highly recommended spot for those seeking a flavorful and hearty Québécois culinary experience in a picturesque setting.
I've walked in front of this place a million times & told myself tonight was the night, I was in the mood for a good poutine & with a name like Montreal Poutine, you can't go wrong, right?
It was alright...
Nothing to write home about. The gravy was your typical BBQ-style St-Hubert grocery store variety. Fries were OK. Cheese was squeaky, at least.
Best poutine in Montreal & excellent service!! It is a little hidden, & on a second floor, but the ambiance feels almost like a speakeasy. A true hidden gem. I got poutine with smoke meats, & they let me drink my tea from home!!! Would recommend to anyone who is visiting Montreal & would like to try their coveted poutine.
My husband & I each ordered a poutine, & the portion sizes were very generous. The price was also quite reasonable, especially for us coming from Toronto, where we're used to similar pricing levels.
Overall, the food was decent & satisfying. However, there were a few things that made the experience less enjoyable. They do not offer free tap water, & we noticed that most customers, like us, were simply asking for water rather than ordering drinks or alcohol. We personally just wanted water as well, but were told they only had bottled water available, so we ended up buying one bottle to share. I understand bottled water in restaurants is usually more expensive, but I was surprised when the bill came out to around $4 for one bottle ESKA, plus tax.
Another downside was the atmosphere. The restaurant felt quite dim, & some of the indoor plants looked a bit neglected, almost like they were drying out.
In summary, the food itself was good & filling, but between the lack of free water, the bottled water pricing, & the overall atmosphere, the experience wasn't as satisfying as it could have been.
Very slow service. If there is any competition in the world then this one will get a 1st rank. What a waste of time just for poutine. They took 1 hr to prepare 1 poutine. Avoid this one if you value your time.
If you order drink then they will serve you fast otherwise no.
Poutine Montreal truly lives up to its reputation for having some of the best fried chicken in Montreal-crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, & full of flavor. Absolutely loved it!
I was also pleasantly surprised by their customized rum + hot water + honey drink-I ordered it for a sore throat, & it was honestly amazing & very comforting. Such a thoughtful & warming touch.
The only downside was the hot chocolate, which didn't quite meet expectations.
Overall, great food, excellent fried chicken, & a memorable experience. Would definitely come back again! 🍗🥃
Beautiful spot & tasty food. It's in an little courtyard surrounded by old buildings. The food was very good & the service was great. Did is reasonably priced, drink are kinda high, 4$ for a bottle of water, 12$ glass of beer. Our server, Charlotte, was very nice. We ate outside but there were lots of tables inside as well.
