Review Summary

Montreal Poutine shows up in reviews as a strong, comfort-focused destination in Old Montreal, offering huge portions of poutine in a warm, rustic setting with a courtyard vibe and stone walls that many describe as charming. The menu items such as smoked meat poutine and fried chicken poutine are consistently praised for rich gravy, squeaky cheese curds, and fries that stay crisp; portions are often ample enough to share and are considered good value for the price. The atmosphere and service receive frequent compliments, with friendly, attentive staff and a lively ambiance noted, though some visits mention slower service, busy crowds, or occasional missteps like a spill or delays. A recurring practical note is that tap water is not provided and bottled water is the default option, which some guests find disappointing on top of higher prices. Despite occasional drawbacks, most reviews emphasize a positive experience, with many saying the experience is memorable and that Montreal Poutine remains a go-to spot for authentic Quebec comfort food in a historic, courtyard setting.

We've tried several other poutines but this is by far the best one we've had. Loaded with gravy & cheese curds. Definitely would come back again.

absolutely loved the atmosphere-the terrace feels like a castle courtyard, a beautiful spot to relax & enjoy casual food. The smoked meat poutine was generous, loaded with cheese curds & meat, & definitely filling. The classic burger with cheese & bacon was hearty comfort food, & while the bacon came more like bits, it gave the whole burger a smoky flavor I enjoyed. Even the hot dog, simple as it was, hit the spot in its toasted bun. Overall, a fun & memorable place to enjoy Montreal staples in a gorgeous setting.

Montreal's best poutine in my opinion! The vibe of this spot in Old Montreal is so cute, the chips are fresh & crispy, with the most flavourful gravy & LOADS of cheese curds! The location is surrounded by cute streets to walk off your food coma. Highly recommend this as your poutine spot when you visit Montreal.

Loved the rustic Old Port atmosphere & the wait staff was professional & absolutely wonderful. We were a large group & it was made clear in a friendly & professional manner that there's an automatic gratuity added due to the size of our walk-in party. We were easily accommodated despite it being lunchtime.
The food however...
My only personal issue was the quality of smoke meat on the poutine. It was akin to overcooked minced meat & nothing like MTL smoke meat one would expect (especially for the price). The poutine sauce was as expected, cheese the perfect squeaky-curds & melted. The fries were decent too. Crispy, not the greasy spoon fast food you get from LBP.
I would return for a standard poutine next time maybe but am still quite disappointed with my smoke meat experience :(

No vegan option for poutine on the menu, the gravy contains gluten, not all waiters were able to inform us about allergens & there was no way to look it up, it took 3 people to bring us a QR code to the menu, there was lint in the drink of my partner, I received a different beer than ordered, there was a piece of cheese in my'vegan' poutine, I did not receive onions on my poutine even though it was ordered.

The poutine was amazingggg! Fries were super crispy but soft, gravy was a little sweet which was really nice, & the cheese was just chefs kiss. Would recommend

This landmark location is one place to visit when you're in Montreal. The city lends its name to this iconic dish & to this place for a reason … which makes it worth a try, just don't even attempt to think about calories or anything related to healthy food habits. The portions are absolutely huge & if you are able to complete & finish the full smoked meat or sausage version of this gastronomically loaded with cheese & potatoes bomb … you are a member of the select group of die hard foodies who live to eat & not the other way round!
The place is usually full of tourists & seems crowded with makes the whole experience even better or worse depending upon your preference. The service is okayish & since the purpose is to stuff yourself with super fatty yet absolutely delicious to die food you just have to dive into the plate & forget about everything else around you… bon-appetite!

We stumbled upon this gem along our walk today in the old port. The portions are massive. We are a bit of poutine snobs & this poutine is top!! The fries are perfectly crispy & the cheese is fresh. Portions are massive & price is reasonable. The smoked meat sandwich was also delish! A great spot for a quick bite without breaking the bank.

Poutine lacked cheese & was quite plain. I like food with some flavours that make it interesting. A little surprised that you cannot get simple tap water instead are required to buy a $4 water. For a place that serves alcohol that is not in line with the liquor codes. Service was slow & took forever to get the bill.

Crispy fries, rich gravy, & gooey cheese curds are a match made in heaven. Friendly staff & a laid-back atmosphere make it a must-visit for poutine lovers.

By sheer coincidence, we stumbled upon this poutine restaurant (which also serves alcohol). While wandering in Old Montreal, we decided to take a break here. We ordered two beers & a poutine to share, & it was absolutely delicious! The fries, coated in gravy, remained crispy, & combined with the cheese curds, it was divine. The service was also excellent; everyone was prompt & friendly. I believe they deserve even higher praise for their food & service. However, the beer prices might be a tad high, but still manageable. I'll definitely come back next time I'm in Montreal.

Enjoyed a classic poutine in the evening - the fries & cheese were delightful. The side aisle tables offered pleasant outdoor views adorned with hanging money plants. The ambient lighting added to the overall experience.

We came from Toronto to try their authentic poutine but were really disappointed. Cheese was not heated, was way too salty & the poutine was dry. I wouldn't have been able to eat the ketchup. Save your money & go to McDonald.

Had a wonderful experience here last saturday night. You walk into the open air space & it is stunning. The tree, the bar - gorgeous.

We had the best poutine of our trip here & my goodness it was flavorful. The cheese chunks were so delicious & don't get me started on the flavor of the gravy. It was a "lighter" sauce that wasn't thick so it didn't weigh everything down & overfill you. It perfectly complimented the food without getting it soggy.

Our server, Tao (I hope I spelled it right!) was extremely friendly & courteous. The bartender, Ava, made one of the, if not THE best Long Island I've ever had (& I make them at my own bar all the time :") ) I got to speak with her briefly about the bar & drinks & she was also very friendly even though they were closing.

Overall it was a great experience in every way. The staff, the environment, the quality of the food: A+
