Review Summary

Mon Ami Korean BBQ draws mixed reviews, with many diners praising delicious food, a wide variety of meats and sides, and a lively interactive grill that makes for a fun dining experience. The atmosphere is often described as warm and welcoming, and service is frequently noted as fast and friendly. Many praise the quality of meat and dishes like bulgogi, fried chicken, bibimbap, and dumplings, and the all-you-can-eat option is valued for value when the selection is ample. However, several comments point to inconsistencies including variable meat quality, greasy or overcooked items, and some missing or underwhelming options, with some meals feeling more like fast food than a traditional Korean BBQ. Some guests report a confusing or slow ordering process relying on a phone or online system. Cleanliness concerns appear in a few reviews, including bathrooms and sticky tables. Pricing and portions are debated, with some finding the price fair for all-you-can-eat and others feeling it is overpriced, especially for alcohol or certain dishes. Despite these drawbacks, the restaurant remains popular in Montreal, repeatedly praised for flavor and friendly staff, and many reviewers say they would return.

When I first saw that Mon Ami was opening on Masson, I was really super excited to finally get korean food nearby. I tried this place on a Tuesday evening around 20:00. The owner told me that AYCE was no longer available & I honestly did not have any problem with that. Then, I assume it was the teenage daughter of the owner that put my husband & I at a table that is meant for 6 right next to the window. The weather was very cold that night so instead of sitting facing each other, we ended up sitting next to each other to keep warm. That was the first ick but I figured it wasn't that bad. Another waitress that seemed to also be a teenager (again, im assuming it was the daughter's friend that got hired) came to give us ustensiles & water. She left everything on the table & we had to serve water ourselves. At this point im still okay with it but it is worth to mention that the restaurant was basically empty. We ordered a seafood pancake, ramen tteobokki, & 2 flavors of fried chicken. The ramen tteobokki came first & my husband was disappointed that it was in a soup form. We have ordered this same dish at other Mon Ami locations before, & it usually comes in a thick spicy sauce. Again, I tell myself, maybe we just didn't read the description right of the dish. The pancake was served afterwards with no sauce. I asked the waitress to bring it & she completely forgot about it & my husband actually had to walk up to her to remind her because she was never looking at our table. The sauce finally came & the pancake was already getting cold. The pancake was very dense & crunchy (big difference with crispy). I did not think it was good. The fried chicken was delicious but I was already annoyed by all the rest of my experience. Overall, I would say that this restaurant needs to hire real waiters/waitress staffs. The service was very amateur & they could also definitely improve their korean pancake recipe. I was really truly rooting for this restaurant to thrive but my first experience was very mediocre. I would give it a try again in 6 months to see if there's any improvement.

Edit: my friend went & also had a horrible experience so i'm lowering my review to 1 star & would never come back here again 😐
