When I first saw that Mon Ami was opening on Masson, I was really super excited to finally get korean food nearby. I tried this place on a Tuesday evening around 20:00. The owner told me that AYCE was no longer available & I honestly did not have any problem with that. Then, I assume it was the teenage daughter of the owner that put my husband & I at a table that is meant for 6 right next to the window. The weather was very cold that night so instead of sitting facing each other, we ended up sitting next to each other to keep warm. That was the first ick but I figured it wasn't that bad. Another waitress that seemed to also be a teenager (again, im assuming it was the daughter's friend that got hired) came to give us ustensiles & water. She left everything on the table & we had to serve water ourselves. At this point im still okay with it but it is worth to mention that the restaurant was basically empty. We ordered a seafood pancake, ramen tteobokki, & 2 flavors of fried chicken. The ramen tteobokki came first & my husband was disappointed that it was in a soup form. We have ordered this same dish at other Mon Ami locations before, & it usually comes in a thick spicy sauce. Again, I tell myself, maybe we just didn't read the description right of the dish. The pancake was served afterwards with no sauce. I asked the waitress to bring it & she completely forgot about it & my husband actually had to walk up to her to remind her because she was never looking at our table. The sauce finally came & the pancake was already getting cold. The pancake was very dense & crunchy (big difference with crispy). I did not think it was good. The fried chicken was delicious but I was already annoyed by all the rest of my experience. Overall, I would say that this restaurant needs to hire real waiters/waitress staffs. The service was very amateur & they could also definitely improve their korean pancake recipe. I was really truly rooting for this restaurant to thrive but my first experience was very mediocre. I would give it a try again in 6 months to see if there's any improvement.
Edit: my friend went & also had a horrible experience so i'm lowering my review to 1 star & would never come back here again 😐
We had all you can eat menu... this is not Korean bbq... veggies are fine but meat quality was really bad. meat are paper thin & very oily... & when we asked to change the grill plate which was burnt a lot, the guy asked us to use it longer & poured oil on our grill which was filled with food.... To be honest it was a disgusting moment... why are you pouring tons of extra oil on our food on the grill? The reason we're changing the grill is because of the burnt surface!! not because it's stiky!!!
After I finished whole meal... I felt like I filled up my stomach with some cheap unhealthy oily fast food... & considering the quality of the food, it's absolutely overpriced.. I don't think I'll go back to this place. I would rather do Kbbq at home with better fresh meat from local boucherie.
I tried the Bibimbap & honestly, it was amazing. The flavors were super well balanced ,warm rice, fresh veggies, a perfectly cooked egg, tasty beef, seaweed, & toasted sesame seeds on top. Everything felt fresh & made with care.
The colors of the dish are beautiful & the taste is even better. You can tell the kitchen puts real effort into each plate.
If you're looking to try something delicious & full of flavor, I totally recommend this place. Korean food done right!
Disappointing to say the least. I used to enjoy the branch of the same name Korean BBQ near Brossard in the south shore before Covid & decided to try this one on Masson with friends, but I don't see how both branches are under the same label/company. Meat quality is very subpar & fatty more than meat… sides taste premade like'3 days old' , kimchi is overly salty , maybe we had a bad batch… service is whatever- our main waitress gave us more side eye rather than speak with us the entire time… & we got up to ask for the bill because none of the workers ever came after a while. was this a bad day? Maybe. Were you overwhelmed by your 10 tables? Maybe. The fried chicken was okay. The japchae was soulless. Again, disappointing, & I never write reviews but Honestly just go to Chinatown or at pony for better price for quality & quantity.
I've been to a lot of All You Can Eat Korean BBQ's in Montreal & I can say that this one is my absolute favourite & the best in the city. I have been to this place so many times & I get out always satisfied. The staff is friendly, quick even when it's busy, efficient & always happy to help. The cocktails they have are large & veeery good!! I also adore the food, especially the friend chicken, its delicious! Their kimchi is probably one of my favourite as well, its well fermented & not bland like a lot of kbbq places. I eat there all the time, make sure to go check them out if you want to experience korean bbq !
