Review Summary

Overall, Makoto Sushi receives praise for fresh, high quality fish and well made dishes, with sashimi that melts in the mouth and light rice. The all you can eat option misses the mark for many due to repetitive maki flavors and a focus on quantity over variety, while the a la carte menu is viewed as where the kitchen truly shines and invites diners back for made to order dishes. Service is noted as friendly and attentive, with several calling it one of the best sushi spots on Montreal's north shore, though the buffet is described as pricey.

Fresh Fish, but the All-You-Can-Eat Misses the Mark

This is a spot where the raw ingredients clearly outshine the all you can eat format. We arrived for date night with our own wine, eager to see if the hype was earned. While the freshness of the fish is undeniable-a rare win for many sushi spots-the All-You-Can-Eat experience left much to be desired.

The maki rolls lacked distinct flavours, with most tasting remarkably similar after just a few bites. It felt like a case of quantity over quality, with nothing'special' enough to stand out.

However, the high quality of the fish suggests that the A La Carte menu is likely where this kitchen truly shines.

While I wouldn't return for the buffet, I'm curious enough to come back for made-to-order dishes to see if they carry the spark that was missing this time around.
