Madras Curry House specializes in an extensive selection of traditional Indian and Pakistani culinary staples that emphasize authentic spice blends and robust flavor profiles. The menu features a wide array of vegetarian preparations ranging from hearty lentil dal and spiced chickpeas to complex vegetable curries cooked in clay vessels. Each dish relies on a foundational use of aromatic spices like cumin, coriander, and turmeric to achieve a deep and layered profile. Diners encounter a variety of freshly prepared breads such as garlic naan and rotis that complement the savory gravies and dry stir-fried vegetable sides. The dining space focuses on functionality and efficiency, providing a straightforward environment for those seeking consistent South Asian comfort food. High-quality ingredients define the kitchen approach, ensuring that every plate reflects classic regional cooking techniques and time-honored spice ratios.
Madras Curry House is widely celebrated for serving some of the most authentic and flavorful South Indian cuisine in the Montreal and South Shore area. Guests consistently praise the homely, comforting nature of the food, highlighting dishes like dosas, idlis, and various curries that evoke the taste of traditional Indian home cooking. The restaurant is frequently described as a hidden gem where the welcoming atmosphere and dedication of the owners make diners feel truly at home. While most experiences are positive and centered on fresh, high-quality ingredients, some visitors note that service can occasionally be leisurely or inconsistent during busy periods. Despite minor feedback regarding wait times or the need for improvement in specific menu items, the overall consensus remains highly favorable, with many patrons describing it as a must-visit destination for genuine, delicious, and reasonably priced South Indian meals.
One of the best food in Montreal that I had, its a small place but surprisingly food is first class. We ordered Idly sambar, Parota, biriyani all of them were so good.
Excellent food. Dont believe the 4.1 rating the food at this place is yummy. I ordered parotta, biryani & idly all of them are really good. Blindly go for tasty food.

Very casual eatery, my personal favorite go-to takeout spot for the yummiest south Indian food. The owners are adorable & put a lot of love in their food.
Don't order Chinese food from here. It's very very poorly prepared. They even add'matar' to noodles - You won't even find that kind of recipe in China. It's a deadly recipe lol. See pictures I am adding.
Even chilly paneer is like dehydrated paneer pieces into a sabzi-type something. It doesn't even taste Chinese. Don't order Chinese food from here. It's very very poorly prepared. We came all the way from Brampton looking for authentic, fresh, & tasty food, & we absolutely loved it! It was an amazing experience. The food was incredibly fresh & full of flavour.
There was a little wait as the food is prepared by the couple themselves, but trust me, it is absolutely worth waiting for. We ordered Chicken 65, Shrimp 65, Dosa, Vada, & Chutney. I must say, the Shrimp 65 had absolutely no smell at all, & the chicken was so soft & juicy.
Everything was simple, flavourful, & perfectly prepared - not overly spicy, oily, or heavy. & the chutneys were amazing!
I've been in the catering business for 13 years, so I'm extremely choosy when it comes to food, but this place honestly left me speechless.
& the cherry on top was the Payasam - it is a MUST TRY! ❤?
Absolutely loved the food & would definitely come back again!
Place is very simple. No fancy at all. There is small entrance from the side of the grocery store but food will give you 10/10 experience. Couple is so so simple & hard working. Lots of love & blessings to both of them.
They have moved from Downtown to Brossard. We ordered idlis, Masala Dosa, Fish fry (specialty here - don't miss this) & two South Indian coffee. All the items were tasty & freshly prepared!! . (We even took chicken curry to go).
It's in the basement & the food was great, don't expect high ambience but as a daily south indian food place, good to visit when we were visiting montreal.
If you are looking for good south Indian food in the area, this is the place. You might wait little long for your food but tasy food is worth waiting .
Excellent food & service! The idli was super soft, just like in Tamil Nadu, & the parotta was freshly made & delicious. We loved the authentic taste & the quality of the food. The lady who served us was very welcoming & made us feel at home. Highly recommended!
