I knew this place back when it was called'El Tarasco,' it was great spot for authentic Michoacán-style Mexican food, real regional flavor, not the standard menu most Mexican restaurants in Canada & the US serve. The carnitas were the best I'd had out of Mexico, & I appreciated the effort & care of the Michoacán family who ran it.

Under the new name'Luna Azteca,' the menu has shifted toward a more generic, crowd-pleasing style, & quality has dropped. Recently, we went to watch a Mexico World Cup match, it took over an hour to get nachos & drinks. The margarita was watered down, & the nachos were a handful of plain Walmart-style Tostitos with a small scoop of mashed beans that looked pulled from a yoghurt container in my mom's fridge, but they costed $15. We also got some guacamole with the same type of nachos & the guac was terrible, it had giant onion chunks, like they didn't even make the effort of chopping it properly.

I don't write negative reviews often, but it feels like this restaurant is investing in its Instagram image while neglecting the actual food. Nothing personal against the owners, as a Mexican, I want to see Mexican businesses succeed, but please be honest with customers & don't serve careless dishes that feel like a rip-off.

On a goûté aux quesabirrias, tacos carnitas & les enchiladas rojas. Gros coup de coeur pour les quesabirria!! Tellement juteuses & savoureuses. Les tacos de carnitas m'ont surpris parce que c'est pas ce que je préfère normalement mais ça & les enchiladas j'ai beaucoup aimé aussi. Tout goûte frais, ça paraît que c'est un restaurant familial, vraiment authentique. Je recommande définitivement

The carnitas tacos are super flavourful & tender, & the birria is absolutely delicious. Highly recommend if you're craving authentic Mexican food. Also the 7$promo are such a great deal. Thank you!! Ps. Don't miss the chocoflan!! 🤤🤤

Le Tarasco is cozy, colorful, & full of flavor. This family-owned Mexican spot in Hochelaga is all about heart … from the Spanish music videos playing on the TV to the traditional blankets used as table runners & traditional masks decorating the walls.

I stopped by during their Thursday to Sunday special this month:
🌮 $7 for 2 tacos (you pick your meat)
🍺 $7 beers instead of $9
Great deal, great vibe.

Here's what I tried:
🌽 Pozole - A warm, comforting bowl of soup that tastes like tradition.
🌮 Carnitas Tacos - Juicy & tender with no frills, just flavor.
🍺 Michelada Pequeno - Tangy, spiced, & perfect with tacos.
🍹 Cantarito Pequeno - Zesty & refreshing, like summer in a cup.
🍮 Chocoflan - Soft, rich, & dreamy … part chocolate cake, part flan, all delicious.

The staff was super kind, the portions were just right, & you could feel the pride in every dish.
