Open kitchen, meals are amazing and service is on point.
We had a great night. Food was fantastic!
I don't normally review here... I always think I should when I have great service, then forget. This is different. I'm reviewing because I was bitterly disappointed in the service and think others should be informed.
My husband and I arrived early, as they were opening at 5pm on Saturday. We were recommended to go there from a friend of the owner. Unfortunately, for the owner, he wasn't there and his staff was lacking.
We weren't made to feel welcome from the second we walked through the door. Because the menu specials aren't available until 6pm, we were abruptly told just that - however we were explained what the specials were. We were happy to spend our money on drinks or apps until then, but didn't feel welcome from the start. When we walked in there was a group of employees sitting at the front table that seemed put off because we were there at their opening time of 5. I assume they are used to reservations starting at 6, and so their start time is 6, not 5 when they actually open.
It was obvious we weren't welcome when, at 6pm, the other patrons that started arriving got the full service - they were explained what the specials were and not shoved at the back of the restaurant, out of the way. I still don't know what the specials are.
The good? The chef. He was incredible and friendly. He took our order, our menus and talked to us. He made us feel welcome - unlike every other employee at Le Bon Vivant.
When we left, i asked if the tips were shared among staff or went directly to our server. I was told to the staff - not sure if that was good or bad - our server definitely didn't deserve a single penny. The chef - absolutely received every last dollar of the generous tip we left. Keep him (young kid in a toque).
My boyfriend and I went by this place yesterday and we were both very pleased with the service and the food. We had the kimchi poutine as appetizer and I think everyone should try it ! It was so delicious ! As a main course we had Schnitzels and salmon tartare. Both very good ! I recommend this place for date night out or a dinner with friends. We will definitively come back !
