Since it opened in 1931, the Centre Eaton de Montréal’s iconic 9th floor restaurant has been known by Montrealers as “le neuvième”.
With La Grande Salle’s high ceiling and elegant architectural lines, Le 9e was among the first Art Deco interiors in the Province of Quebec, and is classified as a historic monument by the Ministry of Culture.
Lying dormant for twenty four years, Le 9e’s reopening in 2024 honours the past and embraces the future.
Le 9e - Restaurant Île de France earns consistently glowing notes for its elegant art deco setting, warm atmosphere, and comfortable seating, while the acoustics and overall sound quality of performances are described as outstanding and cinematic. The live performances, from string quartets to candlelight programs, are praised for technical finesse and emotional expression, creating a romantic and immersive mood suitable for dates or fans of virtuosic music. The staff is repeatedly described as attentive and accommodating, with smooth organization and reliable service, though a few reviews mention occasional delays between courses. The dining experience is frequently highlighted as excellent, offering a varied menu with appealing dishes, good desserts, and options for vegetarians and dietary restrictions. The venue is often called magical and iconic, a great setting for family gatherings, corporate events, or special nights out, where music, decor, and cuisine come together to create a memorable evening.

We attended for brunch. We had eggs benedict & an omelette, both of which were just ok. The plate was filled out with too many home fries. The setting is traditional & higher end furnishings. The service was at one point too attentive.
Super spectacle...certains pièces musicales sont touchantes par leur melodicité ainsi que par la magnifique interprétation de musiciens expérimentés & talentueux...c'est à revoir !

I would suggest against the McGill classics shows, unless you are a family member. Concerning the place: there is no stage, everyone is seating at the same level. It is very hard to see or hear, unless you are in the first row. The room is otherwise very beautiful, just not functional to watch a show
Amazing experience, vibe & sound. The accoustics from the 9e arquitechture made it feel as if we were on the titanic listening to the quartet. Alteas String Quartet made you feel as if you were in a movie scene with their incredible technique & emotion created with every stroke. The staff were extremely accomodating & the bar service was exquisite. Very romantic setting for a date night or if you are an admirer of the virtuosity of Herr Zimmer.
