Nothing is cheap anymore in 2026, almost every restaurant in Montreal is expensive. Try going on Blvd.St.Laurent, or on Notre-Dame street where prices are extremely expensive. I've been going to this restaurant since the 90's, & always enjoyed my meals there. The lasagna & all-dressed pizza are my go to plates, along with fried calamari. People should stop whining, if you can't afford eating out, stay home you cheapies.
Did a take-out because we wanted to eat at home but when entering the place, I can sincerely say that it is very cozy, pristine & intimate, definitely will dine-in next time.
The pizzas are tasty, thin crusts & flavorful (had La Molisana & Speciale), seasoning is spot on. Had also insalata caprese & italiana, the italiana surprised me with some bits of papaya which had never tasted it in this way, worked pretty well with their home dressing, good work 👌
Finally, a cannelloni della nonna, filled with their homemade veal filling which tasted great & light, it does feel homey.
All in all, I recommend trying this place if you're looking for an authentic trattoria, you won't be disappointed. 5/5
Great experience. The pizza was one of the best in town & DEFINITELY not over priced! Nice to see a business still standing after so many years! Keep up the great work!
Restaurant La Molisana
If you want real old-school Italian comfort food (the kind that feels homemade, generous, & made with care), La Molisana delivers. This is not a trendy'small plates' place. It's a classic, warm, sit-down Italian restaurant with a welcoming, family-style vibe where you can actually relax & enjoy your meal.
Food quality & portions
Everything leans traditional & satisfying. Their homemade pasta is a highlight & tastes fresh, not factory-made. The sauces are rich & well-balanced (tomato-based, creamy, & rosé/vodka-style options), & the portions are generous without feeling sloppy. The menu also has plenty beyond pasta: veal dishes, seafood, & hearty mains that feel like true Italian staples rather than'fusion.'
Wood-oven pizza
Their pizza is another strong point. You can taste that it's cooked properly (good crust, not soggy), & it has that authentic, straightforward Italian style. If you're going with a group, ordering a pizza for the table along with pasta is a great way to do it.
What to order (safe picks)
• Homemade pasta dishes (great texture & flavor)
• Classic pasta favorites like carbonara, bolognese, & rosé/vodka-style pastas
• Seafood pasta if you like clams/white wine/garlic style flavors
• Veal main dishes if you want something heavier & more traditional
• Finish with a classic dessert like tiramisu if it's available
Service & atmosphere
Service feels genuinely attentive & professional, in a'regulars' kind of way. The atmosphere is classic & comfortable, ideal for a date, family dinner, or a celebration. It has that old-fashioned charm that's getting harder to find.
Value
For what you get (portion size, quality, & full sit-down experience), it's good value compared to many places that charge more & give you less. This is the type of restaurant you leave feeling satisfied.
Bottom line
A dependable, old-fashioned Italian restaurant in Montreal with excellent homemade pasta, strong wood-oven pizza, & a classic dine-in experience. If you want comforting Italian food done right, this is an easy recommendation.
Woww had a birthday party on saturday Aug. 31, 2024 & had the cod fish, it was by far the best cod I ever in my 50 yrs life eaten. La Molisana your chef is amazing. The food was so delicous, the pizza all the food to die for. Your chef is a keeper. P.S. I am still dreaming about the cod YUMMMMYYYY !
We ordered it . It was very good . We had the shrimps pizza, the vegetables pizza,& another one with meat . Tortellini Gigi & the linguine vongole. My only thing is I wish there was more sauce in the pasta vongole for the amount of pasta . I will definitely order again .
Food was delicious. 45 dollars for a pizza is crazy ( also the cheapest option). Service was mid. The live karaoke was fun for a while but gave a headache near the end of the night.
