La Banquise, originally a small ice-cream shop, first opened its doors in May 1968. In fall of the same year, its founder, local fireman Pierre Barsalou, decided to transform the enterprise into a 24-hour snack bar. At the time it specialized in exceptionally good hot-dogs and great fries. Poutine first appeared on the menu at the start of the 80s and originally just two varieties were offered, classic and Italian. However, in response to repeated requests from very satisfied customers, the restaurant’s poutine varieties quickly multiplied. Today we offer no less than 25 different types of poutine. Today, La Banquise remains a family business. Mr. Barsalou’s youngest daughter Annie took over in the 1990s along with her partner Marc Latendresse. Together, they maintain both the tradition of quality and the excellent reputation of the La Banquise Restaurant. In summer 2006, La Banquise underwent major renovations and a much larger dining area was made available. 40 years on, La Banquise is now much more than a simple snack bar or poutine joint. Today it is also a warm, friendly venue where customers can enjoy micro-brewery beers, a complete menu du jour and excellent breakfasts. On m'avait recommandé ce lieu pour manger une bonne poutine & bien c'était une très bonne recommandation ! Le service est dynamique & efficace. On m'avait conseillé la taille regular pour la poutine & c'est en effet bien suffisant même si on est un bon mangeur. Niveau goût, c'était vraiment excellent & très bien servi ! J'y suis arrivé vers 11h30 & j'ai pu trouver facilement une table. Lorsque je suis parti, il y avait au moins 10 mètres d'attente à l'extérieur. Encore merci pour cette très bonne expérience !
I was on a mission for good poutine & I found it!! I can't recall which one I got I just asked for their recommendation, I think it was some -clix or something. It had a ton of smoked meat on-top & was very delicious & filling. It's cool that it's 24hr & even when I came at 4am it was still lively inside.
Restaurant ouvert 7/7 jours & 24h/24h offrant une grande variété de poutines & d'autres bons trucs à manger!! J'y suis retourné après plusieurs années & j'ai trouvé que c'était encore meilleur qu'avant! C'était un beau dimanche vers 22h30 & le resto était rempli à craquer & nous avons opté pour le take-out, il y avait une ligne devant nous mais en une trentaine de minutes nous avons reçu nos poutines. Nous avons mangé, près de l'endroit à l'extérieur, sur des tables à picnic mises à notre disposition. Vraiment agréable! 🙂 Nous avons pris les poutines Elvis & la Mart, les ingrédients était frais & délicieux. Les agencements de saveurs étaient bien équilibré, c'était chaud & dans un emballage biodégradable! 👍La gentille serveuse était polie & souriante & elle a pris le temps de nous conseiller malgré l'achalandage, c'était super!

On a passé un super moment, les poutines étaient excellentes, le service nickel bref rien n'a dire.
D'ailleurs si vous n'êtes pas trop poutine, ne vous inquiétez pas il y a également des burger où autres !

This place is the best for poutine!! Always busy & unfortunately they don't take reservations. If you decide to wait, there is no room to stand...most times you are outside. But make sure to check in every so often.
Delicious Poutine, the best in the Town of Montréal. But felt that one of the girl staff was racist & arrogant. I felt like shit for the rest of the night.
If you want to have service & feel welcome. Well this isn't the place you should go. Treated like you're shit just for asking more water while waiting almost an hour for a poutine that's so bland you can barely say it's from Québec & just a ripoff... welp won't see me again nor my friends.
