Review Summary

Japote is widely regarded as a premier, budget-friendly destination for authentic Japanese comfort food, particularly famous for its curry katsu, teriyaki chicken, and custom sauce selection. Although the eatery is situated within a food court and maintains limited weekday lunch hours, its reputation for quality, speed, and affordability attracts a consistent crowd of students and professionals. Customers frequently note the necessity of bringing cash and preparing for a queue, though the line typically moves efficiently. While some mention that portion sizes can be modest and suggest opting for larger servings, the overall consensus highlights the excellent value, friendly service, and delicious flavors that make it a must-visit downtown Montreal spot.

Possibly the best place on earth. $8 chicken teriyaki rice bowl (#3 Tori-don) is unbelievable. Great flavour across the entire sauce selection & very quick. Curry is great too. Cash only!

Great! Great! Great!
It is the best lunch place in the downtown Montreal. You will be full with $15 or less. You don't find many JDF (Japanese Domestic Food) restaurant in Montreal.

Waited in line to order, read the reviews & realized it's **cash only** so I had to walk to my bank. As soon as I arrived, the line was completely gone.

The service is nice & the food taste pretty good. I had the number 10 which was curry katsu. It tasted really good & they gave a reasonable amount of katsu chicken for a 10 dollar meal.

Unbeatable lunch spot. Affordable, fast, & delicious in a way that is impossible to find so close to McGill or downtown. The food is good, but the sauce options bring everything up a notch.

Cash only, & if you have a bigger appetite I would recommend getting multiple items, but it is still worth it!

Inexpensive Japanese fast food. Be prepared for a long line during lunch rush but the line moves quickly.
