Tried the fish, chicken & pork tacos.
The fish was my favourite. The other two were okay. The chicken one lacked flavour & the pork was a bit hard.
My husband had the Hogar bowl with chicken & said it was okay
Would have liked to have tried the guacamole with chips but it was $15… maybe they should have a half portion version or would that be only 4 chips ???
Good but nothing special
I ordered a chicken burrito & it barely had any chicken, it was stuffed with rice, beans & lettuce & no flavour.....it was extremely bland! Oh & let's not forget the service, I was standing there for almost 5 minutes while the staff was chatting as if I wasn't there, until I waved my hand to be served. Service with a smile goes a long way, even if the food isn't that good, but even that was too much to ask for.
We waited 5 minutes at the cash register to order some food just for the counterwaitress to tell us to wait a bit so that she can clear some orders before taking more orders. We waited another 5 minutes for her to tell us to wait another 10-15 minutes before ordering. We ended up giving up & just found a seat then ordered from their website. I don't understand why she couldn't take our order first then have us wait for our food... At least she was polite about it. The food itself was decent. I enjoyed the flavours & the sauces of the tacos but I feel like it was a bit too greasy & it was missing a bit of a kick. The salsa was not spicy at all & left us a bit disappointed. There was also a bitter taste in the pork which left us puzzled but the rest was good. The place is hard to find a seat which makes it less pleasant & when you manage to find an empty table, it sometimes end up not having chairs.
Tried the pulled pork taco with pineapple-habanero salsa. The pork itself was smoky but no flavour, & the pico de gallo added a bit of freshness, but that's about where the positives end. The tortilla fell apart instantly, which made the whole thing messy & honestly pretty unenjoyable. The flavours overall were very'meh' - nothing stood out, nothing layered, nothing memorable.
It wasn't terrible, but nothing about it would make me go back or try it again. Just okay, & for the price, not worth it.
The line leading up to & wait to have our orders taken, even when we were at the cashier, were quite long. Understandable, there were way too many people at the mall on a Sunday (yesterday). The cashier was polite & sweet, no issues at all with her service. Ordered a steak burrito - It was just okay. I wouldn't pay $18+tax & tip for the portion or flavours. My burrito was quite dry & bland in terms of flavour. But it is Royal Mount, I guess.. Additionally, about 6-8 hours later, my abdomen began hurting a lot. I unfortunately now have food poisoning symptoms. My rule in life is, if the food is delicious, I don't care what the sanitation situation is. With Hogar, neither standards were good enough & now my bowels are paying the price. Please, go somewhere else, for the sake of your wallet & your bowels.
I give the food about 5.7/10. It wasn't good but it was average. I ordered the burrito with pork. The pork was not seasoned, did not really taste like much. Most of the flavour came from the rice & guacamole. The flavour was good but just boring & average. For instance chipotle & or mucho burrito is much tastier. Also ordered the "crispy" tacos & was surprised to see it was grilled chicken. Did not address it to the owner because we did not mind. Regardless the flavour profile of both meals is boring & not worth the price. Not be returning.
