Review Summary

Gokudo is described as a cozy, hidden bar with an intimate vibe, low lighting and music that lets guests talk easily while enjoying craft cocktails. Reviews highlight creative, well balanced cocktails, a solid selection of sake and Japanese whiskey, and friendly, attentive service that makes a welcoming impression. Atmosphere is repeatedly praised as suitable for date nights and relaxed evenings, with a stylish yet unobtrusive decor and a discreet entrance adding to the charm. However, some notes point to inconsistent service, with staff who are very helpful and others less engaged, and peak times that can bring lines and slower pacing. Food receives mixed feedback, with certain bites praised while others are described as not as fresh or generously portioned for the price. Payment can be cashless only, a surprise to some guests that was not always mentioned in advance. Overall the venue remains a standout for cocktails and ambiance, drawing strong praise across many reviews despite the occasional tradeoffs.

I came alone. I ordered a scallop appetizer. They were good… So that encouraged me to get a maguro (tuna) dish with rice. The tuna wasn't tender or fresh enough. It was a bit fibrous & dry. That disappointed me. They have a nice selection of sake & Japanese whiskey. The waitress was kind. However, they don't accept cash, & no one mentions it in advance. I don't know what they expect 🙄😬. Payment was complicated. A real shame. I won't be going back

Small cocktail & saké bar. Has a speakeasy vibe. Very cute. The cocktail we tried were very great & all original, with multiple layer of flavor's. Haven't tried the food.

This is a dark & sultry Japanese bar. It's perfect for a date or tryst. The cocktail menu is interesting & there's a good selection of sakes & sojus. A bar menu has a few mediocre bites. Service is cute but forgetful. Most people will love Gokudo because it seems like a hidden discovery.

I had a great time at this Japanese restaurant & bar. The ambiance & the vibe were really nice & relaxing. The music was not too loud & suited the mood. The food was delicious & authentic. I especially enjoyed the Sake & the Maki. The service was awesome & attentive. The staff were friendly & helpful. They made sure we had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves Japanese cuisine & drinks.

The décor is beyond gorgeous, no denying that. The food was good, although the ingredients were fresh & high quality, it felt like it was prepared without love: sushi rolls were falling apart among other things. But the real reason why I take 2 stars off this place is the sake menu. I came to Gokudo with the intention of spending a decent amount on a nice bottle, but when you advertise SAQ sake at 4x the price, how can I trust that the 120$ is worth the price? When I saw the Haiku, which is 16$ at SAQ, priced at 55$ on your menu, I just lost faith. If a restaurant is comfortable being that dishonest, I can't trust any prices or recommendations.
