Excellent food. Seasoned perfectly to my liking (I had salmon & shrimps with fries) food was so good, my son ate half of it. (He's almost 2) on our table we also had the chicken, chorizo, lamb & grilled calamari. Everything was served at the same time! Everything smelled & tasted fantastic!!! I mean seriously, I would have had seconds just because!
I called 10min before asked if terrace seating availability. & told them we were in construction cloths. They not only accepted us with welcome feeling but sat us down on the terrace. Food was unbelievably delicious. The chicken, the shrimp. Dessert. still makes my mouth water thinking about it. Great experience. In & out perfect for lunch. Thank you to are waiter Louis
We were looking forward to this one! Pork & chorizo were excellent. However, the chicken was dry, bland, overcooked. Fries were great.
No drinks menu, so when the bill came I was surprise to see they actually charge 15$ for a glass of white wine (The bottle was a Catarina, the bottle is 15$ at the SAQ).
The service was disappointing - two overworked waiters were constantly running around, clearly stressed. They were kind, but they couldn't take the time to give the service you'd expect. Owner seemed very friendly.
So yes, overall I get that this is a popular spot but I can't say I recommend it.
The food is awesome. It is a really nice friendly place. The atmosphere wasn't really there. It felt like a place to eat & have a conversation, even if with noone but the staff. No music whatsoever but was calm enough. The chicken & the calamari tasted great but it took a bit of time before we got the food.

Delicious & lovely service. Sat outside on their spacious terrace & enjoyed the weather (it was actually not humid for once!). Had the chicken breast. Comes with a salad starter. & they serve warm bread rolls that are ginormous!

Amazing quality & price. Very busy, but that's because it's so good. Service is great, atmosphere is nice, almost fancy, & food is plentiful for a small price. Half a chicken, fries, & a salad for 22$. You really get the cake & eat it too. Plus their tipping options still include 10%-15%-20%, which is nice to see in 2024. I remember 10 years ago you were already a great restaurant. It's nice to see you still are. Thank you :)
I've been going to this restaurant a couple of times a year for at least 5 years with my girlfriends. The food has always been amazing & the waiters are mostly friendly & helpful. Last time we were there, the server messed up the bill & got snippy with us, but we saw it as a one-off thing. I had asked for an extra chicken to take home & he included it in the bill to be split. He didn't think nor ask how the bill was to be presented. I was there again tonight. Like many restaurants, their prices have jumped but what perturbed me was an issue regarding the water. The waiter asked us if we wanted still or sparkling water. We said still, assuming it would be tap water like it always has been. Imagine the surprise when my friend picked up the bill & there was a $13 charge for two bottles of water. We argued the toss because a) it's never happened before & b) the waiter never asked if we wanted just tap water. Yes it came in a bottle, but I didn't notice him cracking the lid & most places recycle bottles to save our planet, pouring tap water into them. I've just been in another country & the stipulation was made very clear at every single place we went to so we were all a bit miffed. Now, the guy could've been nice & agreed to cover one bottle of water as an honest mistake, but instead he argued the toss & stood his ground. It was imported Portuguese water afterall! (Who the F cares about that?) Hoodwinking customers is not exactly a nice way to do business Mr. Galo owner/operator on tonight. Your chicken may be 5 stars but your service is in the sewer. BE WARNED PEOPLE. I will not be in a hurry to go back there in principle
We love Galo in TMR ! Roasted by fire oven Chicken , portugese style.
& the fries are the best in Montreal, amazing.
