Dutty Yea Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Montreal: Menu, Reviews & Reserve (2026)
CaribbeanBBQJapaneseFusion

About

Dutty Yea presents a vibrant fusion of Caribbean, BBQ, and Japanese culinary traditions, offering a distinctive and exciting dining experience. Savory, slow-smoked meats form the heart of their BBQ offerings, prepared with meticulous attention to flavor and tenderness. Complementing these are authentic Caribbean dishes, bursting with the bold spices and fresh ingredients characteristic of island cuisine. The Japanese influence introduces a refined element, potentially through expertly prepared sushi or other delicate specialties that contrast and harmonize with the richer BBQ and Caribbean fare. This unique combination creates a memorable menu where diverse flavors meet in a compelling culinary dialogue.

Review Summary

Dutty Yea is widely regarded as a vibrant and aesthetically pleasing destination that brings a unique fusion of Caribbean and Japanese flavours to the local food scene. Many patrons praise the quality, freshness, and seasoning of the chicken, as well as the welcoming service and clean, photogenic atmosphere. While some visitors celebrate the generous portions and authentic taste, others express mixed feelings regarding the consistency of serving sizes, pricing transparency, and the perceived depth of the fusion concept. Overall, it is frequently described as a hidden gem that offers a refreshing, flavourful dining experience, though expectations should be balanced between its strong visual branding and the varying opinions on its culinary execution.

Great addition in the neighbourhood!

My girlfriend & I got a bowl each. I took the Ponpon Jerk chicken & she chose the Yuzu BBQ chicken. As the restaurant is still in its soft-launch, they didn't have enough rice for two bowls so they swapped the rice for roasted potatoes & they offered us a free Sorrel drink.

The chicken in both bowls was very tasty, with great sauces that added depth & complexity. The chicken was slightly charred on the edges, which is perfect for jerk chicken in my opinion. At first, I thought it wasn't spicy enough, but the heat built up as I was eating & ended up being just right. I particularly liked the salad with pineapple salsa : it was fresh, slightly tangy & fruity & added a lot of balance to the whole plate. I'm not used to pineapple in a salad, but it was a very pleasant surprise. As for my girlfriend's bowl, the sauce was even tastier & the potatoes were perfectly seasoned. Her salad didn't stand out as much as mine, since it didn't have pineapple in it. Finally, the sorrel drink wasn't really my cup of tea, as I don't really enjoy cloves. I thought it was a bit overpowering, especially while eating the chicken.

The staff was really friendly & helpful. You could tell the employee who served us was proud to serve the food offered on the menu, which is always a good sign!

As Jamaican food is pretty hard to come by in Montreal, this spot is worth a detour, especially on a sunny day, so you can enjoy eating in the park on the other side of the street. We will definitely come back!
