Review Summary

Dutty Yea is described as a hidden gem with bold flavors and generous portions, blending Jamaican jerk with Japanese influences in bowls like Dutty Nonnie and Pon Pon Jerk, plus a coco and curry chicken option that many find standout. Reviews praise the chicken, noting it’s tasty with a good char and plenty of meat, the sorrel drink and a vanilla raspberry swirl ice cream as pleasant extras, and the overall presentation as fresh and appealing. The staff are consistently described as warm, friendly, and attentive, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. Some diners mention price concerns or occasional price display issues, and a few meals feel less special for the cost, though most agree the flavors and portions justify the visit. The noted soft launch with limited rice options gave guests extra potatoes and a sense of flexibility, and the location is described as a healthy addition to the neighborhood worth a detour, especially on sunny days near the park. Overall, Dutty Yea appears to be a chef driven option that delivers memorable flavor and care, with room to improve consistency and pricing clarity.

After watching what felt like half the city's influencers being invited to promote it, we figured it must be the second coming of fusion cuisine. Naturally, curiosity got the better of us, so we were looking forward to vibing there eventually...

The concept is marketed as a'Caribbean restaurant with a Japanese twist.' Now, fusion can be magical when it works. Here… we're still trying to figure out what exactly the twist is. Is it the occasional use of words like'yuzu'? The unnecessary & mysterious appearance of seaweed in the bowl? Meanwhile, the'Caribbean' component appears to be… jerk seasoning. On everything. & when we say everything, we mean everything. If it exists on the menu, it has likely been jerked. 🤷?♂?

The food itself is… decent. Not bad, but not quite the revelation the marketing might suggest. My burger, for instance, contained so much lettuce & so little jerk chicken that it might more accurately be described as a lettuce burger with chicken. Honestly, great news if you're semi-vegetarian. At this point, they might as well skip the bun entirely & call it a lettuce wrap. 🌿

The fries tasted like they'd been taken from a freezer before arriving on the plate, accompanied by BBQ sauce for some reason. A bold choice.

Their homemade sorrel slush was pleasant enough, though about 40% of the cup seemed committed to ice. It's refreshing, but we've definitely had better. ❄?

Where the place really shines, however, is branding. The colours are great, the decor is vibrant, the artwork is cool, & the merch is honestly pretty slick. The whole space is extremely photogenic, which makes sense given how strong their influencer marketing game is. It's a cute spot for Instagram pictures. 📸

So in short: excellent aesthetic, solid vibes (😂😂😂😂), competent food-but perhaps more style than substance. If you go, take pictures… & maybe have moderate expectations.

1000/10

Had an amazing meal at their new location in La Centrale on St Laurent. Absolutely delicious, very reasonably priced & great customer service. Check them out!

Came by a few times on a Friday evening. Doors are open, lights are on but the restaurant is left unstaffed. Wish I could say you get good value for the money or that the food is great but I'd need to be able to order something first.

Maybe the food is good but I was there in store & waited 15-20minutes & no one was in. Not even at the counter.

Great portions & the chicken is so good! The sorrel juice was also a surprise, very tasty. Will definitely go back (& take extra chicken).

Went there during the summer & tbh for the price the food wasn't worth it portion wise or taste wise. It wasn't bad but for how much you're paying I would expect a little more unique taste.

Outstanding flavors & presentation!
We were visiting from Florida & decided to stop by Dutty Yea - what a fantastic choice! We were so impressed by both the taste & the presentation of the dishes. We ordered the Dutty Nonnie & the Pon Pon Jerk, & both were absolutely delicious - perfectly seasoned, fresh, & full of authentic flavor. You can tell a lot of care goes into every plate. We also enjoyed the ice cream, vanilla & vanilla/raspberry swirl, & they were both so good! I highly recommend both dishes & the ice cream, & can't wait to visit again the next time we're in town!

Such a great addition to the neighbourhood! It's refreshing to finally have a Jamaican-inspired restaurant among all the usual fast-food spots. The food is flavourful, fresh, & a much healthier option. I highly recommend the jerk chicken'loaded potato bowl' - the portion is perfect, & they're beyond generous with the amount of chicken. Definitely worth checking out!
