About

Daou delivers an authentic exploration of Lebanese culinary traditions through a menu defined by robust flavors and precise preparations. Patrons encounter a wide array of classic mezze including velvety hummus, smoky baba ghanoush, and crispy falafel that anchor the traditional dining experience. The kitchen emphasizes the use of fresh herbs, high-quality tahini, and charcoal-grilled meats served alongside warm, pillowy pita bread. Each dish reflects a commitment to Middle Eastern seasoning profiles featuring sumac, zaatar, and garlic. The interior space offers a straightforward environment focused on the functionality of the meal rather than decorative embellishments. This establishment remains a dependable destination for those seeking consistent, culturally significant preparations of regional staples. The menu focuses on high-volume production of staple plates that prioritize structural integrity and traditional spice blends over modern fusion techniques.

Review Summary

Daou is widely recognized for serving consistently delicious, high-quality, and authentic Lebanese cuisine that keeps loyal patrons returning for years. Many diners appreciate the generous portions and the care put into fresh, homestyle dishes, making it a popular destination for family gatherings and shared meals. While the service is frequently described as efficient and personalized, some visitors find the pricing to be on the higher side and note that the atmosphere and decor feel outdated, suggesting a need for renovation. Overall, the establishment remains a reliable and flavor-focused choice in Montreal, despite occasional concerns regarding the balance of cost and portion sizes.

I've been coming here for over 30 years. We were a medium sized group & the service was absolutely awful. I had to get the attention of the waiter numerous times to fill our water. The waiter never came around to check how we were doing. The waiter brought the small birthday cake. He did not give us plates, he did not ask us if we wanted tea, coffee or dessert. We waited at least 15 minutes after eating the birthday cake & we had to wave to him to get his attention to bring the bill. When i mentioned to him how come he never offered us dessert or coffee or tea or fruit, he pointed to the tiny piece of birthday cake & said that's your dessert. We left a very small tip. Extremely disappointed after all these years. Will not be going back.

Best middle eastern food in Montreal. My family came from Quebec city just to have the kebbe naya (tartare). Must go & just try Once in a lifetime experience in a middle eastern deco

Muhamara. Excellent. Leur riz est exquis. De bons Cosmos Service gentil On y retourne? Malheureusement pas.

Best lebanese food in all of northern America.

I have been recommended to try this place long time ago . We went on a slow day which was good for us. Thr food is typically lebanese , old school. I ordered a lot of appetizer, most of them were great. The fatoush however could be enhanced & was salty, it lacks too many items if I am comparing to thr remaining app. The Main dish had chicken( excellent ) , kafta ( don't try it ) & meat ( ok, but could be better). I found it too expensive for what I was getting. We ordered app & one main dish with 2 soft drink & a beer. The service was good & friendly. The only downside of this place is it is tooooo old, urgently need à to be revamped, but I guess people likes it that way. I always compare resto with the one from dubai & believe the difference is crazy.

This is an old school & traditional family run restaurant. No glitz no glam, simple & straight forward. We ordered traditional hummus, which was super smooth & tasty. Fattouch & tabouleh which were fresh & well seasoned. We also got the coriander potatoes which were drowning in lemon juice along with shish kebab, kafta, lamb & salmon. The meats & fish were all cooked perfectly. We did find that everything was salty & overall all had a very citrusy taste which isn't necessarily bad but lacked diversity. The waiters are friendly & quick & we left feeling quite full as the portions are very generous. The other customers were all Lebanese so i think this is definitely a favourite for some.
