I have been going to chez Doval since the 1990's. & I introduced my family & they loved it.
Problem has arisen in the past year. One of the owners is very charming & welcome & hospitable, The other one has made myself & my family feel unwelcome.
The three last times we came this summer 2025, each occasion , had a negative experience , completely due to the owner Carlos, Making snide remarks & making a bad joke about his partner being dead when I asked, his partner was not dead but off on that day.
Too bad.I like the place food is decent. It's not a pretentious place but due to the owner , I will never step food in that restaurant again
I have traveled to Portugal, & omg, this restaurant has definitely the best Portuguese food you will find in Montréal! Fresh, delicious, & authentic, you will not be disappointed. First, they serve bread & olives on the table at your arrival, then the menu is rich in authentic plates of chicken & fresh seafood, & don't forget to order a pasteis de nata for dessert with their rich coffee. The staff is extremely professional, welcoming, & helpful. The restaurant itself feels very intimate, & there is a vintage thing about the decor & layouts that remind you of an old family owned European restaurant. All in all, amazing food, great people, nice place, I highly recommend !
Have been coming to this restaurant for over 30 years & still love it. Serving delicious Portuguese grilled chicken, lamb, fish & steak cooked in a large brick oven that you can see if you sit on the rustic & boisterous side (good for groups). If you want an experience with softer lighting & white table clothes, there is a quieter side fit for a romantic dinner for two or family/friends who want to enjoy a quieter conversation. Prices are still very reasonable, for our inflationary times. For that alone, it merits 5 stars!
Sardines & octopus are absolutely amazing! The chicken is also very good! Personally, this is the best Portuguese restaurant in town. The waiter Avelino consistently goes above & beyond to provide top-notch service, & the two very friendly owners make you feel like you're part of the family. The cozy ambiance & authentic Portuguese decor transport you right to Portugal. The extensive wine selection perfectly complements the delicious dishes. Keep up the excellent work, guys. You've created a true culinary gem!
Local portuguese food in a typical family owned restaurant. Ambiance & service was great, & food very tasty. The pork & clams dish would have been better with more potatoes & a bit less meat though. You can really feel the Portuguese vibe as if you were travelling to the country.
