I have traveled to Portugal, & omg, this restaurant has definitely the best Portuguese food you will find in Montréal! Fresh, delicious, & authentic, you will not be disappointed. First, they serve bread & olives on the table at your arrival, then the menu is rich in authentic plates of chicken & fresh seafood, & don't forget to order a pasteis de nata for dessert with their rich coffee. The staff is extremely professional, welcoming, & helpful. The restaurant itself feels very intimate, & there is a vintage thing about the decor & layouts that remind you of an old family owned European restaurant. A very unpretentious place but good food for the value. It's a small place that could use an update & they sat us in an awkward spot where the waiters were pretty much on top of us each time they went by. Make a reservation if it's the weekend & ask for the back room to avoid sitting near the entrance during winter .View more

Always impresses me when a restaurant has stood the test of time. This establishment has been here for what I understand to be close to 50 years. My first visit was almost 40 years ago! This 3rd ownership group continues the fine tradition, & has been doing so for well over 20 years. The grilled spicy chicken is sublime, served with house fries & tangy mixed salad. Our experience at Chez Dorval was unfortunately disappointing. Despite being seated promptly, we didn't receive water until halfway through our meal, & napkins were not provided until the end. The service was slow; it took a while for our waiter to take our order. When one of our friends needed a few extra seconds to decide, the waiter appeared frustrated & began tapping his pen on the table, which felt quite rushed. Additionally, when another friend asked for the drink menu, it never arrived, & a beer ordered by another friend took 15 minutes to be served. While we understand that everyone has off days, we hope the service can be improved for future guests.View more
