This review is really about Cavally's night life & the service of the employees there on a Friday or Saturday night. This is not about the daytime restaurant, but I just had to leave a review about the night life for any visitors or out-of-towners.
I was so disappointed when I got to this place as it was my first & last time. You will NEVER catch me there again ever not even to dine even if there's an event. It's embarrassing because this place is right on Crescent which to me puts it on a pedestal. After my experience though, this place should've been located in a back alley somewhere hidden.
The lineup to get into this place is ridiculous, which has me questioning is in there too small to hold the number people waiting in the line up. It was between 1:30 & 2am. Clearly they hire popular people in the city to come & host to bring more exposure to the clubs, sure no problem. Just do a better job at managing the doors & the crowds.
The bouncers refused to let people in. Pressuring people to buy bottles for ridiculous prices to get in (with this economy almost all clubs are doing this). Even so, our friends did buy bottles & it still wasn't recognized because the other half of the group was not welcomed in. Numerous police are parked right in front because there's a huge crowd of people of color trying to get it so they see a threat.
The people waiting were frustrated & the night was almost over. There was favouritism & the door, because the lines never moved (the regular line nor the'VIP' line). It was chaos & havoc. People were pushing & almost fighting to get in; not demure at all. It was all a big fuss for nothing, really. I ended up leaving & going to another more popular club but it had better security & everyone working in front was uniform, professional, demure & respectful.
The management staff needs to speak to the night life crew & do extremely better especially when hiring popular people to bring business to your club. You want to make money but the reputation is being ruined for those little dollars. I was embarrassed for Cavally's as we had friends visiting from out of town wanting to spend there. I won't recommend to any of my friends. Hope this helps you to do a bit better.
Although we had prepaid to reserve our group space, the restaurant was almost empty when we arrived, which made the reservation fee feel unnecessary. The service felt disorganized from the start - staff seemed confused, & there was very little communication about wait times or what to expect.
Our group was served well after others who arrived later, & basic requests (like water & utensils) were either forgotten or had to be repeated multiple times. There was no sense of attention or coordination.
The food itself was bland & cold. I had ordered a steak which was very tough to cut & I had to send it back. Getting back to me was an incredible wait - definitely not reflective of the price point. To make matters worse, we were abruptly asked to leave our section midway through the evening because the space was being converted into a nightclub. This was never mentioned in advance, & we hadn't even received the full menu we had paid for.
Overall, between the rushed service, average food, poor communication, & lack of professionalism, it's not an experience I'd recommend - especially for group events.
The waitstaff displayed a lack of professionalism that was quite disappointing. After spending around 20 minutes at the bar, it felt as though we were being ignored entirely. Such treatment is unacceptable, & I believe it's essential for staff to recognize the importance of all customers & the value of their time.
Didn't have the pleasure of trying the food since we already ate. Good beer & amazing service, strongly recommend giving this place your business for their very attentive service.
