The food was good, the choice of wine adequate, our server was friendly. Because there was a table of 9 people beside us, the atmosphere was compromised because it became very noisy. But overall as a french Bistro it is very good & I would recommend it.
I recently went to Café Cherrier with one of my good friends, & it turned out to be one of those meals you remember long after. Nestled in the Plateau, the place has that effortlessly elegant French vibe-cozy inside, with a terrace that's perfect for people-watching. We shared a bottle of wine from their excellent selection (French, of course), & every dish we tried felt like a little trip to Paris. The onion soup was rich & comforting, & the steak tartare was spot-on. It's the kind of restaurant where you linger over dessert & conversation, & we did just that.
We did not have a good experience here. The setting is charming & it has an authentic French brasserie feel but the food & service were disappointing. The gravlax salmon was touch & floating in vinegar. Having made & eaten gravlax many times, it was shocking that any real chef would present this & to make matters worse, it was served with bland bun coated in sesame seeds, not unlike a hot dog bun. Horrible. I had to send it back The pasta we ordered was very ordinary. The waitress was not apologetic, helpful or pleasant. All in all extremely disappointing. Cannot wait for L'express to reopen. They know what they're doing.
The French feeling atmosphere traditional cuisine, we ordered delicious duck salad if I not mistaken at the time they had chickenliver over rice, French onion soup. amazing Crème brûlée, savory crepes with super fresh fruits. Grapefruit juice. It's one of the best places I've been. If you come to Montreal, that's a stop you need to do.
Delicious French food in a quaint setting! Our waitress was efficient, personable, & helpful with our decisions about which dishes to offer. Definitely recommend!
Classic French bistro with perfect breakfast, lunch & dinner menus. Sit inside or under the lovely canopy on the patio. Our server was a friendly & knowledgable. A mix of tourists & locals. Recommend the steak frites, croque-monsieur, & crème brûlée. Very reasonably priced.
We go to Montreal a couple of times a year & always have at least one dinner here. Our favorite dishes include the salade frisee, blood sausage w/ apples, the fish soup, the house special ribeye. But as much as the food we love the casual, very French atmosphere & the friendly but attentive service from waiters like Bernard. Just close your eyes & listen to the happy chatter, proof of a good restaurant.

If you truly want to experience the ambiance & excellence of French cuisine, this restaurant in Montreal is one of the city's most authentic gems. We visit Montreal a few times a year & will make sure to dine there in the future as well. The service, the dishes, the wine menu, the ambiance--everything is par excellence! Thank you so much for having us & hopefully, we will communicate in French next time! :) Ilona, Pavel, & Anton Toronto
I wish I could speak better French to explain how much my wife & I love the restaurant-the service-the ambiance-the superb food- the creativity of the menu-the total experience. Always a pleasure coming to Cafe Cherrier for your quality & caring of the clientele.
