Really nice cafe, especially for it being attached to a hotel. For some reason, by hopes were low but my expectations were for sure exceeded. The coffee was a very reasonable price, & very delicious. The croissant was also good. Service was good, nothing incredible but nothing below good. I would be willing come back here again if I return to Montreal, & I normally don't repeat coffee shops unless the quality is incredible.
This coffeeshop is not living to its potential. The atmosphere & setting are amazing & quite unique in the area, which gives it a particular charm.
However, the prices are inflated past the market around them, you will end up paying a few dollars more on basic items compared to similar experiences around. Food might be good but the portions (ie for sandwiches or quiches) are quite small for the higher price.
I haven't tried the coffee there in a while, I won't be commenting on that. But please DO NOT take the matcha latte: I have tried many matcha lattes from different coffeeshops around Montreal & this has got to be worse one I've had. It tasted like sour, diluted, & uncomfortably cold water with a very subtle hint of a grassy horrible taste. Quite disappointing as a coffeeshop to add matcha on your menu just to copy the market when you are unable to provide a proper high-quality matcha powder & design a latte with correct proportions & taste.
Nice atmosphere!
Not open as late as other places.
Conveniently close.
Nice variety of drinks & food.
Wider variety than the Starbucks across the street!
Also, bigger student discount than starbucks' refill discount (which requires an app).
The food, drinks & ambiance are very nice, & it's right downtown, so super convenient to work/study at. I really enjoy the chai & bagels! I also love how there's so many windows, it's beautiful on rainy days :)
However, I've often encountered very rude staff, some who seem to purposely take long to prepare your order. Last time I went, I ordered to go, as I was going to travel, & almost missed my train because of how long the barista took, even though the cafe was quite empty.
On another occasion, they were playing very loud music, which makes it difficult to concentrate if you're trying to work/study - not sure if this was a one-time thing or if it happens frequently.
We ordered the ham & brie sandwich & it was delicious. The coffee was rich but smooth at the same time, but what was really outstanding about this café was the service. Best service that we've had at a coffee shop ever! Highly recommend it.
Extra tip: The espresso martinis here are from another world & they are only $10 during happy hour.
