Café Castel is widely recognized for its beautiful European inspired atmosphere, featuring a bright, cozy interior with large windows that make it an ideal spot for working, studying, or relaxing. Many visitors appreciate the diverse selection of high quality coffee, flavorful pastries, and unique specialties like espresso martinis. While experiences with menu variety and service speed can occasionally fluctuate depending on how busy the café gets, the staff frequently receives praise for their kindness, helpfulness, and welcoming nature. Located conveniently in the heart of the city near campus, this spot remains a favorite destination for those seeking a charming and comfortable environment to enjoy a drink and a bite to eat.
The coffee here is genuinely good. I usually order cappuccinos or macchiatos, & they are consistently great. The food is okay too as well, although a little expensive for what it is.Unfortunately, the service is what keeps me from wanting to come back more often. Too often, the people taking orders come across as very cold, firm, & unwelcomin gven something as simple as a smile or a warmer interaction is missing, & it genuinely affects the atmosphere of the café.I'm giving 3 stars because the café itself &, most importantly, the coffee are good. But the service needs serious attention.Hopefully this feedback is taken seriously, because the coffee shop has something good going for it, & the service should not be the reason customers walk away.
The coffee & food were ok. However, I was genuinely shocked by the way this café appears to treat its employees. The staff looked like they were in their 40s or older,
having to work inside a greenhouse in the middle of summer, in 35°C heat, without AC is unacceptable.
I'm 20 years old, & even as a customer I was struggling with the heat inside. I can't even imagine what it's must be like for the employees who have to spend entire shifts working in those conditions. It's honestly unbelievable.
A café in Montreal with a lovely view of downtown through its large glass panels & ceiling. We visited on a weekday & the queue can get long as there are only two baristas running the whole café - though we still managed to find a seat. We ordered a hot chocolate & a Brume de Castel. The drinks were okay - acceptable but nothing spectacular. You're paying more for the scenery & cozy atmosphere, which does make up for it. With plenty of natural light, it's a nice spot for catching up or getting some work/study/reading done.
The staff were SO kind & helpful when I thought I had lost my phone. I'm so grateful for their patience, generosity, & goodwill!
Also the cafe is super cute & the drinks & pastries are excellent.
The atmosphere & overall vibe of the place are great - it has a very relaxing & comfortable feel. Unfortunately, the menu is far too limited. For someone who comes in hungry, the options are really not satisfying enough.
In a city famous for its bagels, every café should have a proper bagel section with a variety of options available throughout the day. Instead, the selection here is very shallow. Savory food options are limited & not filling, while sweet items are much more common.
The same goes for croissants - they should be available at all hours, which honestly is not difficult to manage.
My only suggestion would be to expand & enrich the menu. Especially considering the café is located right next to a school, the current menu feels surprisingly limited.
