Overall, Buvette Nicole comes across as a warm, intimate French bistro in Old Montreal with a welcoming atmosphere, chic yet cozy decor, and a team that is consistently described as friendly, attentive, and helpful. The menu earns praise for comforting French classics and standout dishes such as fondue, beef bourguignon, duck, gnocchi, and tartare, complemented by well crafted cocktails and thoughtful wine pairings, with brunch and happy hour also receiving high marks. Service is frequently highlighted as fast and personable, though a few visits note occasional slow pacing during busy times and occasional missteps that affected the flow of the meal. The value is a point of contention for some, with several diners calling prices steep or portions variable, yet many reviewers regard the quality and presentation as exemplary. Most reviewers intend to return, describing the place as a gem, a spot to linger with friends or family, and a destination that captures the spirit of a neighborhood French bistro in Montreal.
We found Buvette Nicole purely by accident & could not be happier. This experience was so good we came back the very next day. Adam & Caleb were the best! Personable, knowledgeable & gave us a fantastic experience. In my opinion, this is the best restaurant in Old Montreal! Thank you to the crew for making our visits so enjoyable & relaxing.
We sat outside on the patio & it was directly next to a sewer grate, which we smelled through our entire dinner. I ordered the lamb which consisted of two chops however 1/2 of each chop consisted of the fat cap & was totally unable. My estimation is that the meal consistent of 4 ounces of edible lamb & the cost was $60. Completely & utterly unacceptable. As I paid for the meal, the waiter stood right beside me & looked at the tip I gave to him on the receipt. Again, completely unacceptable. I do not recommend this restaurant at all.
This place is very mid. The waiters were friendly but not really attentive. Big smile & friendly demeanor, but it took 10min to get a glass of water after we'd been seated. After we ordered the food, we were left for about 40-45 min without news before the food came (real slow service). we had the croque monsieur & breakfast sandwich, both slightly underwhelming.

Amazing! The whole experience! Food top notch! Service superb! We drove from New Jersey & we could not be more pleased! We will be back for sure! Thank you! Juan Dulce
Absolutely fantastic dinner where Chef Alex & team took wonderful care of us. We are fortunate to like everything so we asked Chef to feed us, & that was the best decision. We were treated to an unbelievable spread of everything from tartare, bone marrow, charcuterie, pâté & cheeses, & octopus. Main course was a tomahawk with fries, mash, Brussels sprouts, rapini & asparagus, chimichurri & demi-glace. The video doesn't do justice to how spectacular this meal was, & I think we made the rest of the restaurant envious... bring your appetite, you won't regret it!
An absolute delight. Jordan is phenomenal. He is attentive, knowledgeable & welcoming. But the food is sublime. We ate there two nights on the trot because the first night was so good. Seriously, if you want reasonably priced excellent food, go to Buvette Nicole.
We had to privilege to have diner at Buvette Nicole, with Jordan as host ,on 20 August 2024. Highly recommendable! delightful food & the nicest service you can expect. Marjolein & Nick
Shared tomahawk steak special & charcuterie were amazing. We just stumbled on this place without checking reviews & the food, service & atmosphere did not disappoint. Highly recommend & would go again.
My friend & I went for lunch/brunch (I believe they were serving the brunch menus at the time) & both got the summer gnocchi which was absolutely delicious. Light & very well balanced dish with beautiful presentation. The only downsides were it was on the expensive side & their menu had only ~10 options.
