About

Brit & Chips delivers an authentic British-style culinary experience centered on traditional beer-battered fish alongside an inventive array of potato-based classics. The menu showcases diverse catches prepared with house-made batter, frequently paired with distinctive toppings that elevate the standard fare. Beyond the classic cod and haddock, the establishment integrates Quebecois influence by incorporating various poutine styles featuring rich gravies and fresh cheese curds. Diners encounter a focused selection of fried preparations that prioritize crisp, golden textures and high-quality ingredients sourced for consistency. The environment emphasizes a casual, no-nonsense approach to comfort food where the quality of the frying process remains the primary technical focus. Review Summary

Brit & Chips is widely considered one of the best spots in Montreal for authentic fish and chips, praised for its fresh, crispy batter and generous portions. Guests frequently highlight the diverse menu options, including unique choices like maple syrup batter, gluten-free alternatives, and various fish types like cod, salmon, and haddock. While many visitors rave about the friendly, efficient staff and cozy atmosphere, some note that the venue can feel cramped during peak hours and that dishes can occasionally lean towards the greasier side. Whether dining on the outdoor terrace or grabbing a quick meal near the Old Port, most patrons enjoy a welcoming experience that pairs well with their selection of British-style sides and beverages.

Yeah it's good! But the shrimp popcorn was a joke, such small amount & not worth it at all!!!!! Wish the fish batter stayed crispy! The fries are ight. The coleslaw is amazing! The tartare sauce is good! They have vinegar, mayo & ketchup on the side, thanks !

Great service, friendly staff, amazing food & drinks.
Despite the sauce on top of fish, it was still crispy. It was amazingly soft inside & goes well with coleslaw.
My server was very sweet & friendly, it was very nice to talk to her.
Definitely will come back if I visit Montreal again.

Came in on a weekly night & easily found a table.

Tried the fish of the month (sole fish) which was lightly drizzled with sweet soy sauce & comes with kimchi mayo. If I disregard the attempt to add Asian flavours, I would say it's a crunchy & well cooked fish. As an Asian, I would prefer the kimchi mayo to have real kimchi kick so that it can balance the greasiness. The fish my friends ordered was darker than brown (slightly burnt) but the fish itself is ok.

Poutine was good, cheesy & nicely savoury.

I would say this taste pretty much like the ones I had in London 👍🏻

Service was great, the female staff attending to us (sorry didn't catch her name) was attentive & helpful.

Ordered trio of'morue style poulet chaud sandwich' (special of the month).
Fish was tasty but there was only one small piece - really disappointing for the price $$
The sandwich was mostly two huge slices of thick bread with sauce & green peas.
Fries were delicious & salad was good.

Voir photos!

The fish & chips is easily the best one I ever had. Amazing crunch & the breading is not too thick & not at all soggy. The tartare sauce is so good. Definitely a must try if you are in the area.

We stopped by this fish & chip shop in Montreal because they offer gluten free battered fish, & it was such a great find. The portions were huge, two big pieces of fish, & you'd never be able to tell the gluten free one from the regular.

The fries were homemade & perfectly done, & both the tartare sauce & curry sauce were spot on. It does get super busy for dinner, so we went right when they opened for lunch, which worked out perfectly. Classic fish & chips done right, with the bonus of being gluten free friendly without sacrificing taste.

Montreal is not the city to come to for exceptional fish & chips, however, if you happen to find yourself craving it while you're in the city then this is a fine place to tide you over. Though if you're used to great fish n' chips, you'll have to keep looking. Great decor tho!

The tarter sauce was a bit stodgy, the vinegar lacked punch, & the fries were on the mushier side. The fish was cooked fairly well though & the batter they used was inoffensive. It'll be a perfectly palatable meal to most.

I will say our service was quite poor, we had to refill our own glasses with water we brought from a hike on numerous times, the server didn't come by even once. We even had to go to the front & ask for the bill at the end & that was the first we saw the staff after they gave us our food.
