Listen, if you eat meat, you HAVE to try the beef tartare. It's the kind of dish you think of when your life flashes before your eyes.
I don't even like tartare. Especially beef. But this, dear reader, is to die for.
Nice small restaurant in the neighbourhood. The staff is nice & welcoming. The appetizers were good, the salad was refreshing. The pasta was average, lacked flavour. Overall great restaurant.
Best. Restaurant. In. Montreal… according to my chef girlfriend & server self (industry insight ought to count surely?!). The food is masterful, every dish is a technical masterpiece combining the all-too-rare technical precision with a well thought out & intentioned dish. WOW! As for the service, to sum it in a word: impeccable, with all the quintessentially elegant/familiar Montreal charm, a beverage program & wine list to pair perfectly with any meal. I mean come on.. it's not even fair. GOAT 🐐
Petit resto cozy, la nourriture très bonne. On a bien aimer notre expérience.
The food, service (especially the attentive owner), wine list & overall atmosphere are all excellent. I really cannot recommend Bona Fide enough. I'm already planning my next visit.
Duck ragu so good we got it twice, & since we had to wait 30 min for our table our server gave us the squash appetizer for free & it was DELICIOUS. Everything was amazing, super cozy restaurant, server was very sweet & accommodating
Radiators OMG! Délicieux!
What a fantastic dinner we had here. The wine suggestion was excellent, the tartare was tangy, not too heavy, & just so enjoyable to eat. The squash/brown butter pasta dish was the star of the show. Excellent service. Beautiful atmosphere. We loved the window seat so much, it's definitely the best table. Thank you!!
Bona Fide is some of the best Italian I've had in Montreal! Loved every dish I had, including a delicious tartare with caciocavello, delicata squash, sage agnolotti & duck ragu. They had a mackerel ratatouille special which tasted very homey, but also had expertly cooked crispy skin. Would be well worth another visit to taste other pasta dishes!
Thank you random Reddit guy for the recommendation!
Coup de coeur du quartier! Notre nouveau restaurant chouchou.
Bonafide is the kind of restaurant that instantly makes you feel at home. The atmosphere strikes the right balance-elegant yet unpretentious, lively but never overwhelming. It's the type of place where you can settle in & enjoy yourself without ever watching the clock.
What truly makes Bonafide stand out, though, is Luigi, the owner. He is absolutely magnificent. From the moment we walked in, he treated us as if we were family. His enthusiasm for food & hospitality is contagious, & he has that rare ability to make each guest feel like the most important person in the room. He guided us through the menu with genuine excitement & made excellent suggestions, showing his deep connection to every dish served.
We started with the breaded olives-crispy, perfectly seasoned, & addictive enough that we could have ordered another round without hesitation. The squash plate was beautifully prepared, highlighting fresh, seasonal flavors that felt both comforting & refined. Each dish was thoughtfully plated & balanced, showing a kitchen that values quality ingredients over unnecessary complexity. It's rare to find simple dishes elevated in such a memorable way.
Together, the food, the setting, & Luigi's personal touch created an evening we won't soon forget. Bonafide is not just about eating; it's about experiencing genuine hospitality & heartfelt cooking. For anyone looking for an authentic dining experience that goes beyond just a good meal, Bonafide is a must. Without question, five stars.
Impeccable service. Every dish, pasta & meat alike, was creative & perfectly executed. This place is a gem!
One of the best pastas I've had in a while!!! One of Montreal's hidden gems. Definitely a must.
