I kept telling myself while eating this'this is terrible'. The place is dirty, the staff is rude, portions are small & they buy Costco nan bread. I was super hungry & not picky but now I'm scared of what is going to happen to me in a couple of hours.
This place was a recent discovery while I was walking through the MURAL Festival, & what a find it was. I wish I had photos to share, but you'll just have to take my word for it… everything was absolutely delicious.
The samosas are a must-order. They come with a spicy date chutney & a refreshing yogurt-mint sauce, both of which complement them perfectly. We also tried the potato patties topped with chickpeas, similar to aloo gobi chaat?, but elevated with caramelized onions & sweet pickled cabbage that added incredible flavor & texture.
What makes this spot even better is how affordable it is, especially considering its prime location. The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, & genuinely passionate about what they do, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
& don't even get me started on the mango lassi. It was absolutely decadent: rich, refreshing, perfectly sweet, & tasted completely natural with no artificial flavors. At only $4, it might just be one of the best deals in the city.
I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area. It's the kind of place you'll want to come back to again & again.
Reminded me of the indian street food I had in Bangkok, Thailand.
My go to Indian, hole in the wall. It used to be owned by the main restaurant on Jean Talon, but it's been sold off…but the food recipes remained pretty much the same. Atmosphere is to be desired so take out is the best option if you live in the area. The service at counter is comparable. Manage your expectations for the price point & atmosphere. However, they have always been efficient & never rude or disrespectful. Just efficient & consistent which is pretty good. Butter chicken is the best option. But almost everything is good. Portion size has somewhat gone down over the years but it's still a lot of food for a thali. Bonus small samosa is a plus. So if you want to no fuss affordable Indian place, this is a solid option.
You can never go wrong with this place, I have been visiting here since it was opened. Authentic Indian flavors, best butter chicken, & Naan. Chicken curry, Gobhi Aloo, & Chana masala remind me of back home. Hats off to the chef.
This place is THE BEST! The food is super yummy Indian comfort food. I travel out of my way to pick up a veggie thali. & Navi is so sweet. It's a great MTL resto.
I cannot say enough about this place. I have celebrated EVERY major milestone, minor milestone & minor inconvenience in my life (since moving to Montreal 4 years ago) with the thali combo & samosa from Bombay Express on St Lau. I do not know any place that offers such incredible value for money, while producing such delicious food. I have tried every single Indian food place in the Plateau & have not found one I like more. I have recommended it to ALL of my friends & they are regular customers now as well. I ate there yesterday & they will see me again next week. Also, it is always clean & the service is fabulous & fast. THANK YOU BOMBAY EXPRESS!
Authentic. Delicious dishes. Good Therapy. The best for Indian cuisine in Montreal. 😋
I'll tell you it's amazing Indian food. The butter chicken was some of the best I've had. The price is right on point, especially if you get the meal deal. But if highly recommend this place. For any time of the day, but especially after a good night of drinks.
