Overview of the reviews shows Bis Ristorante as a warmly inviting, authentic Italian dining spot with many diners praising flavorful, generously portioned dishes, a cozy romantic vibe, and attentive service, along with strong wine recommendations and a varied menu. The lamb dishes, seafood risotto, gnocchi, and house tomato sauce are frequently highlighted as standout items, and many guests say the experience feels upscale and worth the price. A few experiences note inconsistencies such as slower service, uneven pacing, and at times overcooked or not fully satisfying dishes, but overall the restaurant is described as a memorable place worth returning to, especially for date nights or celebrations.
Les serveurs étaient plutot sympatiques avec les hommes mais avec une touche d'arrogance (& d'oubli) avec les femmes a ma table. La nourriture, le service (la rapidité), tout était absolument parfait à part ça! Grazie mille!
A true gem in Montreal! We've had an amazing experience & loved the quality of our dinner & wine. The Cardinale was an unexpected wine suggestion that exceeded our expectations!

I want to give BIS 5 stars, but it's hard to with how my dinner went after spending $300. I'll break it down with cons & pros to leave on a high note.
Cons;
- In the pictures, BIS looks like a small intimate restaurant with great ambiance for a date. This is true, except it's very loud when busy. Can't blame this on the restaurant, but sound absorbing paintings (cloth canvas) on the wall would help immensely. My date was not as expected because we had to nearly yell at each other. There was no music until half the place emptied. Once that occurred, the jazz they put on was a nice touch.
- We had no less than 4 different waiters all in various states of rushing (again can't blame them, it was busy, but why not assign waiters?). Some treated you as you would expect at an elevated restaurant (ie; when my gf asked to have the wine menu described/recommendations, our waiter was fantastic at explaining the wine menu. However, when asking on recommendations on the food another waiter got a bit too...Italian? Said they'll make it however we want in a loud boisterous voice. We're not Italian. We don't know what we want, which is why we asked for recommendations. This is something you say to a regular. It was friendly, but off, & my date felt pressured.)
- My date slipped down the stairs on the way to the bathroom. She's 120lbs, so this is not a weight thing. I thought maybe it's because she wore heels. No, I went as well & the laminate flooring is either ultra buffed or washed with something maybe not meant for it. It was like ice even in my wide dress shoes.
- The creme brulee is listed in mini & large, but was only available in large. Wait what? Did you run out of small dishes? I understand a specific wine or meat being out, but this is creme brulee.
- The bathrooms are...well, a $5 breakfast Diner bathroom spruced up with neat little tricks. Guys, please renovate the bathrooms.
Pros:
- I booked via phone message & got a call shortly after to confirm my reservation. Not sure if it was the owner but they were very courteous & made me feel valued.
- The food & cocktails were great. I got the filet mignon which was done perfectly to my order.
- Once the business died down, the night time atmosphere with the jazz music was classy & intimate.
- Service timing was excellent. Not too fast or slow. So while we did have 4 different waiters, everything was perfectly timed. Kudos!
I think BIS is an excellent restaurant that could elevate to 5 stars with a few small improvements.
