This is the bar that finally made me like gin - & that's saying something. Credit goes to Khaaliq, the kind of bartender you don't just remember, but talk about later like an old friend. You could order off the menu, sure. But the real magic? Tell him what you're into, & he'll come back with something so spot-on it makes you question why you ever drank anything else.
The place itself? Dark, moody, just the right kind of strange. Plants spilling out of corners like the jungle crept in & decided to stay. It felt like a secret, like you weren't supposed to be there, but somehow were. A hidden pocket of the city where you're not a tourist, just someone in the know.
It was the perfect way to start the night. The only regret? Not sticking around long enough to catch the DJ. Next time, I won't make that mistake.

This bar is amazing. Awesome drinks, friendly staff. Its such a cute retro vibe inside as well. It was so good that we came back a second time within a few days. Tommy was a legend & Max too! Would definitely recommend!!
Such a vibe! From the moment you step inside, the dim red lighting, intricate tilework, & mix of textures (plush couches, tall stools, & intimate bar seating) set the stage for a night that's equal parts stylish & welcoming. The aesthetic nails that vintage speakeasy feel, but without a hint of pretension...just pure, unforced cool.
On a Saturday night, the soundtrack was a love letter to old-school hip-hop, & when DJ Cristobal U took over at 11 PM, the energy soared with deep cuts & classics that had the crowd buzzing. The music, like the space, felt curated but never try-hard...just genuine, good-energy beats.
But what truly sets Bar Leonor apart is the people. The bartenders, Adrian & Mickey (one of the owners), are the kind of warm, engaging hosts who make you feel like a regular from your first visit. Despite the busy night, they took time to chat, share stories, & showcase their craft with passion.
We started with the Looney Tunes, a playful yet sophisticated opener, then dove into a lineup of drinks that each felt like a revelation: the Juice Box (bright & inventive), Saturn (balanced perfection), Ciao Pescao (refreshing with a twist), & Wooden Ships (complex & smoky). Picking a favorite was impossible...they were all so good
Bar Leonor has instantly become a go-to spot for us. Between the stunning atmosphere, killer music, world-class drinks, & staff who treat you like friends, it's the kind of place that makes for the perfect night.
A relatively new speakeasy in Montreal - so go there now if you can before it gets too difficult to get in.
We sat by the bar (our favorite spot) & got to taste some libations curated by Adrian. A fan of clarifying milk bunch, Adrian recommended the Juice Box & it totally hit the spot!
My husband was a bit difficult to please as he is allergic to pretty much all the spritz except for corn-based vodka. Adrian took his time to come up with a cocktail that would fit his needs, which was very thoughtful.
We got to chat with another friendly bartender, Khaaliq, a New Yorker like us, but who has moved to Montreal years ago. This bar was more than just a watering hole for us; we felt connected with the locals.
We had the best time here. Adrian was an incredible bartender, conversationalist & the cocktails were out of this world. Atmosphere & service were both 10/10.

Bar Leonor is like stepping into a long time friend's house. The staff make you feel like you're catching up with a friend you haven't seen in a while. Tucked away in a cozy basement with warm ambient lighting. The service was amazing & the bartenders are talented. Whether you order a drink on or off menu. Definitely make a stop next time you are in Montreal.
Stumbled across this place while wandering around Chinatown. It's a cool underground listening bar with a really friendly staff. The athmosphere is great, & they've got a DJ on Fridays (house) & Saturdays (hip-hop) that starts around 11 :)
That's my go to bar now! I love how cozy this bar is, you can bring friends or a date their. I love the bartenders too, they are so kind & fun to talk to! My must is to come on saturday for their throwbacks hiphop nights, that my jam! All their drinks are amazing too, always great for my taste. You're going to see me there often :D

We visited quite a few bars in the three days we stayed in Montreal & the drinks in this bar were our favorite.
We sat at the bar & ordered cocktails that were not on the menu. We just told the bartender our preferences & he made 4 fantastic, delicious, well balanced cocktails. We were also lucky we went there on a Monday night & it wasn't too busy so the bartender had time to do it. I'm sure this bar gets busy on weekends considering how good their cocktails are & they have DJs.
The bartenders were very friendly & knowledgeable about the city & the drinks.
We highly recommend this place for anyone who likes good drinks & a great atmosphere !
The experience they offered was spotless. The bartender knew his spirits, asked the right questions & served us with a smile. He let us taste a non alcoholic amaretto which was amazing as I don't drink & offered to make me a virgin amaretto sour which was spectacular. He catered to each of my friends tastes & they were all left with a drink they loved. The cocktail menu was well seasoned & varied while offering a creative approach to classics & their own fun creations. They were all balanced in flavors hitting the mouth well rounded as you sip. Water was served immediately after sitting at the bar & when you enter the place a friendly host/waitress guided us to our seats & offered arrangements for our group. All with a smile. Later we met the two brother who own the place that were gracious, humble & cultured. They had the capacity to make everyone they spoke to important, which made the experience have a cherry on top. When the bill was presented the prices were fairly priced. The vibe was spot on everyone was vibing to the dj who was playing tasteful house, we even danced a little. The bathrooms & floor was clean & there was a security man at the door guaranteeing guests their security. Overall a fantastic experience & definitely a go to bar for dates, friend hangs or even going solo. I have no doubt this bar will climb to be a hot spot of the night life in Montreal rapidly. Bravo 👏
Lovely little cocktail bar, was a quiet Thursday which is to my liking. Service was excellent, we even got reco's for the rest of our trip! Might even make a trip back to try another cocktail or two!
Great spot replacing the old Mal Necessaire location.
Don't expect the same vibe or set up though, the bar is in the middle of the room & is surrounded by high tops & a lounge area. The DJs are chill & the music isn't thumping hard enough that you can't have a conversation.
The staff is great & we've always had great service from Wil & Christina, who always seem to have time for a chat no matter how busy it looks.
Special mention to the cubbies under the benches at the lounge tables, creating tons more space at the table in the winter by eliminating hooks & jackets everywhere.

We came as tourists on a Saturday night. The staff was INCREDIBLY friendly & energetic. Our host helped us find a seat where the music wasn't as loud, & the bartenders were great as well. There was live music as well, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
Overall this place is a bit pricey, but we had an amazing experience, & it's WELL WORTH a visit.
When in Chinatown, this place is a must for cocktails. Chill vibes, great music, & incredible mixologists behind the bar. Definitely adding it to the list for return visits.

Discovered this nice little bar in Chinatown. It just openned last november & everything is new & beautiful. The staff was very courteous & welcoming. Drinks tasted great! I'll go again.
Really great cocktails on the menu, but if nothing catches your eye the bartenders are super knowledgeable & ready to make a custom drink! The vibe is very relaxed & nice for conversation
